1) I am 20.3% American Indian, but I am not enrolled in a tribe. Is it okay to put my grandmother's tribe or should I not even say that I am American Indian?

2) I just got Spring Term (May-June) grades back. They were not on the transcript I already send to AMCAS. Should I leave those grades off my application or should I put them on and resend my transcript? Will AMCAS get confused if they get two transcripts from the same school? For what it's worth, I would prefer they didn't have these grades, because I got a B+ in one class and a B in the other.

3) For AP credit, do you leave class number blank, put the number of the class it was transferring as, or does it not matter?

4) For Post-Secondary experiences, what if there is no organization name, no contact name, and/or no contact title? I think seeing declined to answer looks bad, but I don't want to just make up organization names.

Thanks guys!

I think the best thing to do is call up a medical school or talk to your pre-med. advisor at your school.

Good luck,

1) I would put whatever you're comfortable with. being NA definitely helps, so go with it if you feel comfortable.
2) don't resend transcripts since you got a B+ & B. I'm assuming the spring would bring your GPA(s) down. No need to send them
3) sorry, no experience here
4)give us an example, do you mean hobbies, etc., cause community work/healthcare/awards have got to have contact info.

good luck

1) That's a good question and I don't have a good answer. I'm less Native American, but do have some from both sides of my family. My mother told me her grandmother never signed up on the rolls because she thought it was a scheme of some sort. So officially I'm not recognized. Since I also don't have any cultural contact and don't look it particularly, I've never tried to claim it.

2) Sounds like you can feel free to leave them off unless they ask specifically.

3) I wrote my AP classes as they showed on the transcript and it worked. You might read the instruction book for more detail.

4) Just write something to help them understand. For several contacts I wrote "certificate available on request", just to let them know I can prove the experience should it come up. You can almost always come up with someone who would know something about the experience. Just do your best was my rule.

For those of us who are older, some experiences may be so far in the past that a contact cannnot be listed. I like moose's idea about presenting the certificate upon request. Anyway, I don't think its a big deal--after all, its not required.

1) I agree with Derf
2) Unfortunately, you have to request that updated transcripts be sent to AMCAS and fill in your spring semester grades on the online form. Med schools aren't stupid. If you tell them you attended a school during such and such dates, they will notice if grades missing for any of that duration. Even though you may not be happy with your grades, you don't want to look like you're hiding them from med schools. They will look down upon that and it could hurt your chances of getting an acceptance. If you want, maybe explain why those grades are lower somewhere else in your application, or in a secondary, or in a (finger's crossed) interview.

3) I originally left class number blank and AMCAS filled it in with "N/A".

4) It's hard to answer this without more specifics. The name of the organization doesn't necessarily have to be an official thing, it can just be a general title for the type of activity that's more informative than their grouping options. I think it's ok to leave contact person, etc blank in certain cases. I think med schools will understand that there are circumstances in which one just doens't exist, but you do want to put down an answer wherever possible.

Good Luck!

Here's another question for you all...am I too late to be "early"? I plan to put my AMCAS in by the end of the week, and my numbers are good enough that I'm not terribly worried about being really early, but I'd like to know.

Sorry, everyone...I forgot this wasn't the "all AMCAS questions go here thread"...*general mumbling at what a dumba$$ I am*

hehe, i still consider this applying early cause i doubt they've done a lot with our class since they are still working on the previous class.

thanks for all your responses guys!

how did you come up with such a specific percentage? 20.3%???

my grandmother is 13/16. i'm 13/64. that's about 20.3%. i guess i should just say 20%. 😛

i am .00314 native american 🙄
