Hey guys! So I got in a debate with a friend of mine who is in the application process in OT.

The argument was that she believes OT is harder than PT school or if anything the same. In my observation, I have a lot of friends who are in OT school and it seems to me that they have a lot of free time. They attend at USC. When I look on this forum and talk to friends who are in PT school, free time seems like a fragile moment and comes around rarely. Is OT school more demanding or yet similar than PT?

Thanks! Hope to hear from you guys soon 😀

Or you could ask yourself why you're comparing your chosen profession to your friend's at all. Work hard (as hard as is required and then some), be the best PT you can be and avoid pointless comparisons. Your friend is training to provide a much-needed service as are you. Let it go.

Thanks for the response. Def I will do my absolute best. She just keeps bringing it up so I thought I ask around.

We're both therapy professions.

We joke about this topic all the time. That if we fail out of PT school, can we have the option of being "demoted" into the OT program? (It really is just a joke, we appreciate and love our OT siblings)

But at my institution, PT is more academically demanding in terms of course load and course rigor. IMHO PT should just absorb OT/RT and combine our efforts in establishing a stronger physical therapy profession. OT can be a specialty and RT be absorbed into Cardiopulm. Before I get flamed, keep in mind that its just an opinion.

I don't know why someone would think that getting a master's is more difficult than getting a doctorate. Lol I have some debates with friends as well but it's all in good fun. They both do good work.

That's like asking if an MD is harder than a DO...very similar with subtle, yet important differences. I would let this argument go and let your friend think what she wants. That way, you can have both the satisfaction of being the bigger person and knowing the truth. [;

Haha. Thanks for the response. It is something that needs to be dropped. Just hard when they keep bringing it up. Much appreciated!

They're so similar that it's not even worth fighting about

Give it another 10 years and the OT program will be at a doctorate level too, along with every other profession.
