In this section, are there any questions on structures below the pelvis? (i.e. legs, foot) On the NBDE part I specifications, it says that only stuff from the pelvis up is covered, but I was looking through Dental Decks and there is a flash card that talks about muscles of the leg. I thought Dental Decks were summaries old exam questions?

The dental decks for PartI are just summaries of the material you covered during the first two years of dental school.. It prepares you content-wise, but IMHO it does NOT prepare you for the way they ask the questions on the NBDE I.

For example, it doesn't have that format those NBDE people love so much, i.e. those multiple-choice questions with a bunch of partially-correct answers and the one all-correct answer you must pick. It looks like this:

A) blahblah
B) blahblahblah
C) A and B
D) yadda yadda
E) A and D

THe dental decks will NOT prepare you for the format of the questions, which I feel is half the battle.

The infuriating thing is that A would be one of the right answers and D would be one of the right answers, but if you choose only A, YOU ARE STILL WRONG!

I hate the NBDE I questions.

The dental decks are just old questions off previous board exams. I noticed that when I studied the old tests.

But are there any questions asked about the leg or feet?

No, I don't think there are any questions on legs or feet. The brochure with the paperwork to register for the exam lists all the subjects tested on the exam and did not mention legs/feet. I know, I too was confused by the leg card in the Dental Decks. That card must be left over from a time when they used to ask those questions, or the Decks people are just including it for completeness.

I don't think they ask the multiple-multiple choice questions (like Tom described) anymore on NBDE I. The 1996 released exam was similar to the format of our July 2002 exam, and it did not have any multiple-multiples on there.

Griffin,

Shoot, why is it that on that version of NBDE I that I took that day (with you in the same room no less!), it was full of those kinds of multiple-multiple choice questions?!? 😡 I remember coming out of the exam thinking, boy did I pooch that one..

LOL, I must have crossed the path of a black cat that morning, and maybe walked under a ladder and have a black cloud following me all at the same time.

To my relief when I got the score back, PASS was stamped on the score report.. 😛

Sorry Tom, I might be losing my mind. I just remember seeing tons of those multiple-multiples on the old exams we had to study, and then being relieved that the old 1996 exam didn't have any on there. I figured the ADA wised up and got rid of those questions. I glanced at the now released 1998 exam and it looks similar to the 1996 (as in no multiple-multiples), so I don't think we had any multiple-multiples either.

But maybe this is what seeing crazy patients every single day does to us, it makes us mix up the unimportant details in our lives. I guess as long as we remember what's clinically relevant, we should be glad to make through each day.

However, we now have a new battle to face... PART II... yikes! Board Review starts Wenesday, is this really happening, do we hafta go through this again?
