Facilitated diffusion takes place with the help of a carrier protein down the concentration gradient and no energy is required (since it is moving down the conc. gradient) Expenditure of energy takes place for moving against the conc. gradient i.e from areas of low conc. to higher conc.
So, the answer is c.

thanku kash.since the question says-difference between active and facilitated transport and since both require concentration gradient,i got the doubt.in the provided options,(c) is the ans,i agree.

I also would like to know the answer of the first question. I think the question is asking the hydrolysis of which compound release the greatest amount of energy (ie the free energy G is the greatest decrease). Can anybody explain please..

Hi

plz ans this

von willberand disease is charcterized by each one except ?
normal platelet count
normal coagulation time
prolonged bleeding time
decreased level of factor VIII c
.decreased level of VWF

Thanks

i think ans is (a).vWF is reduced,so is factor VIII reduced.
in vW disease, platelets dysfunction secondary to reduced vWF.its a qualitative platelet disorder,in which primary hemostasis(platelet plug) is defective.so,prolonged bleeding time.no coagulation cascade disorder,so normal coagulation time.
just eliminating ans,so ans shud be (a).
pls correct if wrong.

Hi

thanks pbkal

bt i think platelet count is normal in Von willebrand's disease

Tricky, I say B because all others def true. You may have increased PTT because of decreased factor VIII.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Hi,

there is prolonged bleeding time becoz it is a qualitative disorder of platelets. The word itself says not quantitative disorder.
One more thing is there is associated Factor VIII decrease so coagulation time and PTT are increased.

Correct me if i am wrong.
Thanks

Hi,

What structure causes the buccal vestibule to decrease in size when the jaw is opened wide: Condyle, coronoid, hamular, styloid process??

Patient with leukmia has sudden bleeding from gums reason would be??
isn't it thrombocytopenia??

If mandibular canine on right side is lost, how does it affect protrusive contacts on the left canine?

P waves occuring in ST segment indicates ectopic beats originating in;
-atria
-AV node
- lower portion of bundle of his
-upper portion of bundle of his

This qs has been discussed many times here but never been concluded finally, if thats atria or lower portion of bundle of his. pls confirm the final answer for this.
thanks!!

i remember these questions already discussed in some forum, but could not find though.pls if someone could help with the ans-

1)anterio guidance can be increased by
a)reducing horizontal width
b)reducing both horizontal and vertical height
dont have all the options...

2)in an ideal intercuspal relation, the mandible makes a left laterotrusive movt, which cusp will be an interference for a fractured lower distolingual cusp of a lower molar

3)what is the location of a second canal in lower 1st pm.

Anterior guidance can be increased by increasing the vertical overlap(steeper post cusps) and can be decreased by increasing the horizontal overlap (flatter post cusps)

what is the location of a second canal in lower 1st pm -- lingual, if present

Pls correct me if i am wrong

Hi
Thanks pbkal & neosmile
R u sure for dysplasia
i hv doubt bt dysphonia & dysplasia
plz explain !

Though I'm not sure of dysplasia but all I can say is dysplasia is a beginning of a neoplastic process, so if that can be associated with xerostomia I am not sure of this. What do you say??

pls ans these-

which of the following conditions causes myelin degeneration of the axis cylinders of the peripheral nerves?
a)lead poisoning
b)silver poisoning
c)mercury poisoning
d)bismuth poiso

which of the following describes an example of innate immunity?
a)an allergic reaction to insect venom
b)the classical pathway of complement
c)destruction of virus infected cells by T-killer cells
d)production of IgG in response to insect venom
e)alternative pathway of complement.

To Maiya,
1) which of the structures of the crown of max canine is located immediately to the mesial of mesiolingual fossa
Ans: mesial marginal ridge since the question ask mesial of the mesiolingual fossa which is formed between mesial marginal ridge and the lingual ridge of the canine. If the question ask distal to the mesiolingual fossa, the answer will be lingual ridge.

2)WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING IS MOST LIKELY THE WARNING SIGN OF IMPEDING ATHEROSCLEROTIC BRAIN INFARCTION?
Ans: TIA

Hi,
mallory bodies are inclusion bodies commonly seen in alcoholis even without hepatic failure.Gynecomastia occurs due to hyperestrogenism as estrogen is not degrded by liver.
