Hi everyone,

I still need to take Anatomy and my college offers two options:

1) BIO 05 - a 4 unit, one semester class.

or

BIO 7A/7B - this is BIO 05 split into a 2 semester class.

Will it look bad on my transcript or count against me in any way if it shows I took Anatomy over 2 semesters as opposed to the typical one semester class? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't see why the 2 semester sequence would hurt you, but contacting the schools you plan on applying to would be your best bet here.

Don't quote me on this, but based on research of various pharmacy schools (included my first choice) that REQUIRE Anatomy&Physiology make you take the 2 semester course. The 1 semester course is meant for pre-dental and pre-medical, and the 2 semester course is for nursing, radiology and pharmacy.

Don't ask me why medical school only requires the 1 semester, but thats the way it is....😕

At my school, the 2 semester course is HARSH... it is apparently one of the weed outs for my schools nursing program and radiology program.

Q: Is it really equivalent?

Schools could teach anatomy and physioloogy seperately, so each course is one semester. Or they could combine them and make it a 2-semester sequence where neither half of the sequence is equivalent to just an individual A or P course.

I would say it could potentially be seen as a negative if/when schools are evaluating the difficulty of your courseload.

Some schools separate anatomy (lab - structures ) from physiology (lecture - how it works).
1st semester in my case was:

Metabolism (cellular, Kreb's cycle...)
Skeletal system (Axial and appendicular- , bone structure...)
Muscle system (muscles in diff regions, muscle tissue down to actin and myosin..
Nervous system (ANS, CNS, Brain tissue, sympathetic & parasympathetic nervous systems, nerves...)
Special senses (ears, nose, sight...)

Doesn't seem like much now...

Anyways, both the lab and the lectures are 2 semesters. It is a lot of memorization.I thought the people who took it over the summer were nuts.
