I have been reading this forum for a long time and it's helpful and interesting. However, a lot of people say they get A+ or B- grades....my school only gives letter grades without the + and -. Am I missing something here or do only certain schools do that?

I've always wondered.

Only some schools do that. Mine gives plus and minus grade. It changes the overall weight of the grade distribution. So an A is a 4.0 while an a- is 3.7 and so forth. Sucks if you are on the cusp between grade but is a good thing if you get an 87% in a course which would be a B+ for 3.2 instead of 3.0. Really helps out B students but often gets in the way of gunner pre-meds that get a 92% and get slapped with that a-. To me an a- or an A makes little difference but if you had been holding 4.0 for almost three to four year that a- hurts. Although I doubt anyone was reject because they had only 3.9 GPA.

Yea...

I like how the AMCAS higher powers enjoy ignoring A+'s when calculating one's GPA, but are all for considering A-'s :bang:.

Yeah it sounds like a silly thing to complain about but I really hate A-'s especially since A and A+ both count as 4.0 so no bonus for school gpa or AMCAS. And at least at my school, for most classes, A begins at 94.

I actually like the TMDSAS system better - everything gets recalculated as ABCD, which in my opinion is much more fair than AMCAS accommodating 10 different grading systems. Although my application GPA was higher in both systems than my real GPA at school.

It would increase the disparity further, since you can't make an A+'s worth more than 4.0, you would have to knock everything else down, and it would just make it even harder to get a 4.0 cumulative. If they made A+'s 4.2 or whatever, people at +/- schools would have an advantage that people at straight letter schools would never have, and to make it even they'd have to take the grades "unweighted" (just like how AP weighted grades work in high school...)
My undergrad enjoyed having A-'s but no A+'s. :wtf:
Yeah...ABCDF only ftw

I would agree with you; however, concerning A+'s... after looking at my untapped arsenals [the sheer magnitude of which would even make old soviet generals blush] left rendered only with the functionality of transcript eye-candy... I must blindly disagree sans any type of logic [by default].
