heyy everybody ^ ^

i'm a senior in high school and will most likely be attending St. Louis School of Pharmacy next fall. well, considering i haven't heard from UoP[California] or Pacific[Oregan], yet[top choices, since both offer an accellerated 2+3 PharmD program]. anyway... i'm VERY much interested in pursuing a PharmD/MD route. specifically! "Anes", since my moms a CRNA, at kaiser here in hawaii. i know it's a bit too soon. but, i would like to start preparing myself NOW! so yeah... ANY info is much appreciated. though, for the most part, i was just wondering WHAT school would you guys recommend best and WHY? YES! i am doing my due diligence. but, i see no harm in asking nonetheless. thankiezZz...😀

I see essentially no utility in getting a PharmD and then an MD.

agreed. the pertinent topics in pharmacology will be covered during medical school. it's a waste of time.

it doesn't matter much where you go to college (unless it's the top schools, then the name matters).

I don't know you, but most premeds don't get into medical school. At least that's how it was 10 years ago, when I was a premed. A PharmD will at least be a good back up. This is not a good place to ask which PharmD school is best.

ooh, my apologies D... i was refering to Med school, in that sense 🙂

thanks! by the way as that is my point to the previous 2 posters. so, i don't see it as a waste of time considering as you stated? "most premeds don't get into medical school"so on that note... "IF" things don't work out for me as far as med school. then, atleast i will have something to fall back on. then again, i'm not a PharmD, just yet. so yeah...

The positives of a PharmD seem to be an exceptional background in pharmacology relative to other medical students and a great back-up plan in case you don't get in to medical school.

The obvious negatives are the added time and expense of an additional year of school, missing out on a broad-based college education, risking appearing one-dimensional on MD applications, and the fact that a back-up plan will be irrelevant once you get into medical school.

As far as doing what you can 'NOW!' to prepare for the future practice of medicine, there isn't much to say. You should spend your time studying things that interest you and developing good study habits. You don't need to worry about learning things relevant to medicine right now. There is plenty of time for that in medical school.

One of my surgery residents in med school was a PharmD who went to med school. He the matched in surgery, hated it, quit, worked as a hospital pharmacist while getting an anesthesiology spot. Regrets not doing med school->anesthesiology straight through.

Prediction: OP = future CRNA

aww, thanks! rach 😳 but, considering my eldest sister's[RN], already climbing that CRNA, ladder.... i think i'm gonna go to AA school instead or atleast try of course 😀

Mmm hmm, mmhm, ooook.. sounds good. 🙄
