These are all learned skills and as I've been saying, if Russell Westbrook has been running around the neighborhood as a kid with a soccer ball he could've easily learned this.

If Ronaldo has grown up in the US with the athletic ability he has and the weight training/conditioning training we have here, he could have been a slow receiver maybe (he is like 6'2) and the slightly racist side of me says that since he's latino he could've been a really good shortstop with his agility and strength or a centerfielder

Well that's also the other issue with player development in this country. The majority of our youth go into the NCAA system while their agemates across the pond are playing professionally in academies. That's where the most important growth happens and our kids just stagnant in the ncaa's system.

Obviously most of these sports require the right genetics and your point is probably true for the most part. But I've always felt sports like baseball, soccer, golf require so much natural talent that even the bear training could only take certain people but so far. A Russell Westbrook is probably much more likely to find success in the NFL than the MLB assuming equallvalent training during his childhood imo.

Okay what sport would be play at a high level in the US? NBA? No. NFL? Nope. MLB? Hmm...
He's pretty fast...he's a little older now but at his peak? I'm sure they'd be able to have him play special teams in the NFL at he very least. Obviously he'd have to put on maybe another 5 lbs or muscle. MLB? Probably not. Again huge skill component involved. And definitely not the NBA.

All these skills can be learned to a degree but these few pro's we see, hit the genetic lottery basically. You and I could train our entire lives and never got close to being as good as they are 🙁

Very much true. They're already being paid in their teenage years to play upper level soccer. Here, we make kids ineligible for college if you pay them money.

Yup...look at pulisic. Compared to the kids he was playing with in PA, his time playing pro in the bundesliga probably has his development much further ahead than his former US teammates.
