Kaplan pathology defines aneurysms as "congenital or acquired weakness of the vessel wall media, resulting in a localized dilation or outpouching."
Pathoma says "Weakening of vessel wall results in aneurysm."
Can anyone explain the mechanism of the aneurysm?
If I remember correctly, I think Pathoma explained aneurysm in the context of atherosclerosis, which is the thickening of the intima in medium/large size blood vessels and that leads to lack of oxygen delivery to the blood vessel which leads to atrophy, thus weakness of the vessel. Did I get this right?
Many thanks in advance.
