I've started a lot of threads lately about this and I feel bad but I really don't know where else to go for help or advice. I looked through older posts because I remember reading a similar thread a little while ago but I couldn't find it again.

My question was about when I should contact my DME or PD. I'm just worried that they could simply drop my contract and I'll be out of a job for the rest of the year. I don't plan on transferring to another program this year (not for a lack of trying, just nothing available). Hopefully I will either enter another program through the match or transfer to another program next year.

I read through my contract... it says that they can terminate my contract if there is any "misrepresentation or omission by me in seeking the current appointment or subsequent appoinments." It also says they can terminate my contract at any time for "cause."

Anyone have any opinions? I wanted to speak to my DME pretty soon in order to switch to a traditional internship and get my schedule worked out. Now I'm worried they can just say no thanks, don't come back. Also, I already applied to programs (DO) and I'm worried if I don't say something soon, they may find out from one of those other programs.

Advice would be very much appreciated!

are there any faculty you feel you can trust in your program? maybe try chatting with one of them first.

A couple questions...

You're in EM, right? How did you decide this early that you want to change fields? Did you scramble into EM, and your original plan was a different field? Or did you have a really bad experience during your first month as an intern?

What field are you looking to go into?

The problem is that there's no program I would want to join at my current hospital besides the one I'm in. So I can't just try to move within the same hospital. I'm sure there's faculty I can talk to that will be supportive, I just don't know how exactly they can help me. I decided I'm going to talk to my program director next week. I mean, I have to tell the PD eventually.

I plan on applying to IM and anesthesia... I just don't see myself being competitive enough as a PGY-1 for any other specialty I'd be interested in as I'm geographically restricted. Even anesthesia is a reach. I'm starting to think that skipping the match and trying to find a spot would maybe be a better way to go. I don't want to match into a program and then see something open up in say rads and then be tempted to not enter my matched program... I would feel like a pretty terrible person at that point after all this.

Before anything else, you really need to figure out what you want to match into at the end of the day.
