Any 27-29 MCAT with interviews????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats! Just curious, which school? If you don't want to say, was it a top 20? top 30? lower?

Calidoc,

I don't mean to be mean or anything, but you seem to have A LOT of concern about whether people on this thread got into a top 10, top 20, or top 50 med school with their MCAT. Seriously, isn't the whole point getting into med school? You have asked a lot of people what ranking the school they got into is and you asked me in a PM. Does it really matter? You should be happy that you even get into a med school with the VR score you have. Stop being so concerned with this. In the end, just hope and pray you get into med school, after all, it is what you make of it once you are there.

Just my 2 cents...stop obsessing over this and concentrate on your application, how you're going to explain your MCAT score and VR score. And from my personal experience and everyone on here who has had success, it seems like most people are exceptional in other areas and really have a passion for medicine.

While it may sound like he's being picky or dumb about it, he might just be curious. It's probably not your place to try to tell him what's important to him, especially when he's just asking nicely anyway. 😉

I think the general consensus is that completing applications (primary, secondary, LOR, MCAT) by the end of July is early.... August is still early but not as early as you would like 😀 and starting from Sept a lot of apps start piling up so your date submission date just doesn't matter all that much... you end up being in the general pile!

Submit AMCAS app as soon as possible (!!!) - you can submit as early as June 1, iirc.

Secondaries will start rolling in at the very end of June/beginning of July - try not to take any longer than one week to submit them after receipt. This should allow you to be finished filling out secondaries by the end of August at the latest (some schools don't send out til mid-August).

Interview invites start rolling in toward the end of August - I had my first invite on 8/26, I think. Interview season is Sept-March at most schools.

Keep in mind, rolling admissions: get primary in earlier = receive secondary earlier -> submit secondary earlier = receive interview invite earlier -> interview earlier = longest possible time to be considered for an acceptance.

Good luck! :luck:

I was just accepted off the alternate list at MSU with a 3.35/28! Both my gpa and mcat are sub-par so I knew getting into an MD school was a long shot. I'm so thankful!

For your LORs, did you get your school's pre-med committee to write you one or did decide to do your apps without the committee (particularly for UMaryland)? Thanks.

i find it interesting that self-identified blacks enjoy a 100% acceptance rate with an mcat that is 36+. i'm not for or against it, just an observation.

Can i be culturally black and apply as a URM? I am confident I could pull it off. I can just grow a mustache and tan less.

Hey guys! This is an awesome thread! not everyone has 35+ and 4.00 gap's, but it can be done. I have a 29Q, 3.16 cummulative and 2.98 science and from California. I do believe I have solid extracurriculars that helped me get interviews.
I had interviews at Creighton, Ohio St., University of Washington and University of Illinois, with 2 acceptances and 1 waitlist and 1 rejection.

If you have any questions feel free to pm me. Hopefully I can be of some help. keep at it! I can be done!

29Q! WHATUP. I'm stoked to hear about Creighton. I'd love to end up there. There's an insanely good taco place not far from the hospital.

Hey guys! I had 3.5, 29Q (11 Bio, 10 Phys, 8 V) and I received 2 MD acceptances (Wright State & U Toledo) and 1 DO (MSU). Lots more interviews.

It can be done!

I wanted to say that you rock! 😍 Keep up the good work. I've become your interwebz stalker :ninja:! 🙂

Congrats epic! 🙂 Thanks for sharing. We have the same MCAT score+breakdown (28), so it does give me some hope that my verbal score might be overlooked.

I'm rooting for you! 🙂

I'll be spamming this thread this application cycle, hoping for some interviews. This thread is really inspiring.

😳 Awe shucks girl thanks! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Looking forward to posting some good news sometime within the next 365 days... 😉

Don't be creeped if I stalk you, okay? I am 100% sure that you'll be fine. 😛

I agree. I really feel that there are some very amazing people here. Their MCAT might not be a 45, but they have other positive qualities that I think more than make up for it!!!! 🙂

Barnes and Noble $14.99 for everything a "doctor" could ever need 🙂

We have our white coat ceremony next week and my daughters getting a surprise coat of her own!

I really should get my kids a pretend stethoscope. I mean, I had one when growing up!

That is such a good idea to get your daughter a white coat! She'll look so cute and be so proud!

Good luck at your ceremony! 🙂

BS:10 PS:9 VR:9 28M <--lol to the writing score
GPA: 4.00 all around

Application:
Transmitted 5/30, Verified 6/6, but my Committee Letters didn't come in until 7/19 so for 6 out of the 7 schools I applied to my app wasn't even considered complete until late July (crud).

Got an interview at UTMB Galveston so far 😍

My extracurriculars are strong, I honestly love being involved!
-Leadership: Pre-Med Society Officer, Intramural soccer team captain 😍
-Volunteer Work (~400 hours): Mentor for kids for 1 year; miscellaneous activities through the University (mainly mentorship type activities)
-Clinical experiences (~175 hours): Humanitarian Mission trip out of the country; multiple trips to Texas border towns as a translator for medical & dental students
-Academic Recognition: Graduating in the Honors program with summa cum laude honors; Dean's List; 3 Honors Societies (active in none of them); scholarship awards for excellent leadership & academics
-Extracurriculars: Fitness & outdoors, student organizations
-Employment: tutor for 1 year
-Research: Started this summer, Biochemistry

I am a URM TX resident with a non-science major

This thread sparks some confidence.... I haven't taken the MCAT yet but I've always thought of myself as a gpa person (4.0 thus far).

That's pretty weird haha!

In all seriousness though, this is like the Underdog thread for MDs.

So far one DO interview, but it's still early in the season! 🙂

I have been waiting to post on this thread 🙂

Looks like I'll be adding some things to this thread too, if I get an interview of course. 27R here (7P, 10V, 10B,R) stupid PS. Seeing things like this does give me hope so here I go.

From your MDapp:
PS can go die in a fire

   I felt the same way, definitely was my worst section. I posted on here from last cycle. But I got into an awesome CA school with a 28M, so it's possible!! GL :luck:!!!

Currently in medical school, got in last yr with 28Q and 3.7 cGPA, 3.5 bcpm and 4.0 grad GPA. You guys can do it! 😀

I had a <30 MCAT last year, and applied super late (secondaries in by january...). Got an interview in March.......only to find out the school's class was already full....designated as an alternate...4 alternates accepted, I was #7 -_________-

So yeah, it's possible to get some love with a below avg MCAT, as long as you apply EARLY, and the rest of your app is avg to fabulous. Also helps to apply to schools that outright say they do a holistic review of candidates.

Recently retook the mcat, and actually finished 😛 so i feel better about the score. we'll see!

I hope to be a success story however it is not looking good. I have a 3.5 post bacc(40 hours all science) gpa but they still lump in my crap grades from 15 years ago so my cgpa is like a 2.7. Scored a 27 on mcat in April retook a week ago and am pretty sure now that even if I get a 40 it wouldnt matter. Only school giving me a shot is St George's. good luck to all of you!!! Wish I could go back 15 years ago and punch myself in the face....

Have you thought about doing a masters programs geared towards making you more competitive? I'm not a huge fan but I think it makes sense in your situation where you need GPA repair but it's almost too many credits to actually repair. I'd give it some serious consideration before going to the Caribbean, especially if you have a family (assuming the "dad" in your handle is referring to you being a dad 🙂 )

agree. do an SMP. I'd look into toledo or cinci's

This is an awesome thread. I can't believe I didn't find this before I began applying. It would've made me feel a lot better to know that there are indeed people in the same boat and not everyone applying has a 35+ MCAT.

I have a 29Q, ~3.9 GPA. I got my first interview invite this morning to Albany. I was ecstatic. Good luck to everyone applying this cycle! We can do it!

congrats!

GPA < 3.5 and MCAT is 29 N and I already have 2 interviews so far.

I figured a little encouragement could be helpful! Hoping for more invites. Let's keep this thread going so that folks don't lose hope just because of a lower MCAT

Congrats! When were you complete for Albany? I have been submitted since 7/28 and am complete on their status check but did not get a complete email.

Yes I have thought about it, will wait and see how this round turns out before going that route. Way to go on your acceptances!!

So far one DO interview, but it's still early in the season! 🙂

*edit* Make that three total (2 DO, 1 MD). 🙂

And I have an unbalanced sub-30 mcat score, so I feel real lucky.
