So, I'm starting to narrow down my rank order list and was just wondering if anyone had any insight on any of the following programs. I seem to be having a difficult time figuring out how to rank these and would really appreciate the help🙂. In no particular order:

Wash U
Univ. of Pittsburgh
Duke
Johns Hopkins
Univ. of South Carolina
Vanderbilt

I also have had a hard time getting a good idea of overall resident happiness at Wash U- any thoughts from the interview trail?

If I were you, I'd really rank these based on how well you like these cities, and are willing to call them "Home" for the next 4+ years. They're all very different places, with different strengths and weaknesses to your specific situation.
Academically, the top 4 are all very well-regarded, and no one would fault you on choosing any of the 6 if you had good personal reasons. (Well, I'm sure that someone would fault you...but that's the kind of academic posturing that really isn't going to make a difference to your training...unless you're into that sort of thing. 🙄)

Do you have a sense of whether you want a post-residency career in research? If so, then Pitt might rise on your list. My impression is that it is stronger in guiding research careers than clinical careers, but I may be wrong about that. You would certainly make no compromises by going to Hopkins or Duke, they would both position you for either kind of career and their clinical reputations are strong. Of course, Hopkins has such a unique approach to psychiatry, it's really in a different league. Don't know much about the others. And yes, location really does matter!
