Just curious as to where everyone comes from? I mean I know it says a state underneath our names, but what schools are we all doing our undergrad at?

Can you tell I dont know what to do with myself during the waiting period? lol

Proud Angelino, right here! 🙂

I had the impression last cycle that it may not be in the best interest of the applicant to reveal their institution online, at least before the interview cycle or before decisions are made. A lot of what you say or do on the forums/online in general can be traced back to the specific applicant based on what institution you came from, especially if there are only a handful of students from that school applying. And, as some one pointed out to me then, adcoms may lurk online.

Not saying they're evil and horrible and out to get you or that you'd have anything to hide. It's just like how you might not want a potential employer browsing your facebook.

Just my two cents.

Man, I suddenly just got a -LOT- more paranoid. o.o; Should I delete the post?

It's really up to you. I mean, what's the difference between vet students proclaiming their vet school now and having employers roam the SDN forums as well? And while your actions should speak louder than whatever posts you have, I just wanted to let that issue be known.

I am so far beyond anonymity, it's not even worth it for me to worry about it. :meanie:

Lolol 🙂 Well you have a lot about you that I'm sure will negate any interweb pitfalls.

But my point was to make people aware of the omfg dangers of the internets.

I recently had my... kind of embarrassing FB status about a certain class shown to the audience (classmates and some faculty) while we were doing presentations. I'm a little paranoid right now haha.

Sometimes I forget how [dangerously] open the internet is. Luckily, I am not one to post inflammatory or crude comments anyways.

I'm kind of curious now — mind telling your story?

Nissan....totally get what you are saying and I agree, however, from what I have seen this is a pretty positive board and pretty much everyone on here has offered positive support and answered questions to help others whenever they can. I am surprised and encouraged by the teamwork that goes on here. No one is catty or badmouthing...at least as far as I have seen.

I doubt the schools have time to be like OH! this person went to Auburn for undergrad....let me look around on other posts and such to see if I can figure out who this person is and what they say. No...they don't even have enough time to return emails sometimes

The SDN forums are very supportive, and yes, there is no badmouthing, being catty, etc. That's not the point. The point is that you reveal a little more about your personal life that may or may not be detrimental to how you want to be presented, even though adcoms are supposed to be unswayed by personal biases. It's up to you if you want to reveal that, but just know that some things can be turned around into a negative, especially out of context.

And it's true. Most adcoms probably have no time to surf SDN to find out all the dirt on applicants. But why add that extra miniscule amount of stress? In light of competition between candidates that are equally as qualified for a seat, it does seem arbitrary how some schools ended up rejecting and admitting students. I, in my fit of paranoia, wouldn't want something as dumb as a forum post to tip the scales out of my favor.

....
You know, after typing all that up, it does seem silly to have revealing your undergrad = your downfall. I think I'm just going into conspiracies and worst-case-scenarios. I'd still err on the safe side, even though posting anywhere online results in the same risk. Oh well. I'll go back to studying my hind limb now 🙂

I'm pretty much 100% sure that having Dr Ginger (or Dr Gingeropolous as Nyanko named her last night after Dr Ginger stole feta from me) as my avatar got me in to all those schools. I mean come on, she's a doctor, which makes me more than qualified.
