Besides, queer girls don't need pics - we have imaginations. (And yes, boys, that's why we can make your woman come harder than you can.)

Since we don't have imaginations, how about livening up the thread a bit?

this thread does not exist to facilitate your masturbation fantasies. contrary to the self-centered and misogynistic ideology held by most straight men, girl on girl action does not exist to turn you on.

plus, i thought gay sex was "wrong" and "gross" and "unnatural"

It is between men.

Excuse me, I was talking to girlsporty and prana...

But to change the subject, ladies, don't you just hate it when a male partner thinks that you will automatically include them in your same-sex relationships? I like girls and I like boys, but that does NOT mean I will be your pimp. Y'know? (And guys would not be into "lesbians" if they truly got it into their skulls that lesbians, by definition, are NOT into them.)

It's also kind of offensive when they don't mind you sleeping with girls, because they don't consider it a "threat to the relationship" - but godforbid (oops, atheist thread, sorry :p ) you touch another guy. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for taking advantage of their ignorance to get some guilt-free tail, but newsflash: other girls are just as much of a "threat" as other boys. My current SO was the only boy to ever "get" this: so I've been monogamous (sigh) for years...

Perfect response. The voyeurs get verbal icewater down their pants, but the queer girls will want to get to know you all the more...

I adore the kind of woman that sexist men consider to be an "angry bitch from hell". :)

Only if the hot heterosexual girl doesn't mind experimenting from time to time.

Nope. I never want to fight against that kind of woman - I want to fight by her side. The "flighting" would come later... ;)

In other words, PsychoDoc, OSUdoc08 is a hypocrite. You are not.

I'm amazed by your innocence. It's sweet. If you are married, your wife is probably a very happy woman.

(noonday, I swear I'm not an oathbreaker, really - but c'mon, I gotta get a pass for this one...)

Except why would I ever argue with a woman that is furious about sexism? I love a good debate, but there is usually not much to disagree with. Angry women energize me, they don't piss me off. :)

Wow, just read skimmed the threads. I'm not gay, or atheist, but I'm liberal and pre-med, so just sticking my head in here to show support for those that are all these things. I'm living in a red state and not liking it too much but it's where I'll get cheap, instate med school education while living at home....for that, I'm willing to endure the liberal potshots here and again. :D

Welcome! Maybe you can win some hearts and minds where you live, help wake the sleeping giant of compassionate non-voting liberals. :)

What kind of liberal are you? There seems to be some distinction (libertarian, keynesian, clintonian, canadian).

Woah, this thread has become way racy! Maybe I really SHOULD switch teams. I want to inform you all that I have so far received one marriage proposal as a direct result of this thread. I do not yet know whether my having a girlfriend on the side would nullify said proposal, but sweetheart, if you're reading this, let me know how you feel, m'kay? ;)

Ok, so getting serious now....Flop, I am saying this with the utmost of respect that I can muster, because I really do like you, but you seem way too upset about some of the posts in this thread. Getting all upset every time someone posts an off-topic post isn't going to do anything except give you high blood pressure. Considering that this thread has broached the three most volatile topics on the planet (sexuality, religion, and politics), and all of us are still in possession of every finger and toe, I think we're doing ok. And like trustwomen, I think that it's nice to hear from other like-minded people. If that means wading through some other posts that are silly or off-topic, so be it. Life is messy, and SDN is no exception, but I don't think that this thread is all that horrendously off-topic. If there's some other issue that you want to discuss, by all means feel free to bring it up.

Er...the social kind...? I guess I'm more libertarian in some ways, but I'm weird in that my catholic friends have converted me to the idea of social justice, which is considered 'big gov't' by liberatarians. Hm, perhaps Canadian works best for me. I agree with much of their policies, even though I think it still has problems.

ty!
i've been called that before. and just about every other name in the book. get "feminazi" more often than not.

but damnit, like the button says, "i'll be post-feminist in the post-patriarchy." after working in a physical science field that's 85-90% male for almost 10 years, i've seen my fair share of sexism, so i KNOW it exists.

anyway...i see a lot of libertarians here. me, i'm unabashedly, proudly european socialist. economically socialist, socially liberal. i believe in a maximum wage that is tied to the minimum wage, universal healthcare, etc. which, mind you, is actually a moderate political stance where i live right now...

Yay for social justice! And yay for its Catholic supporters! (I swear, it feels like the Franciscans vs. the Dominicans all over again, sometimes.)

I live in Quebec, which is certainly the most socialist region in all of North America. (I am a "moderate" here, a "lefty" in NYC, and a "radical" in most of the U.S.) We have very affordable tuition, a great social safety net, socialized car insurance (all medical torts are administered by the state, meaning private insurance is 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of anywhere else in Canada), a year of paid maternity leave for all workers, and of course the highest taxes too (total marginal tax rate, kicking in at 60K income, is 54%). All the poor people vote, here.

You get mocked and/or resented for being rich here. I'm already getting gently teased at work for getting into med school, and buying a used Nissan Maxima. I think it will be good for my soul and my "grounding" to keep working as long as I can.

I love Quebec.

I love that line. I tried to buy that bumper sticker once, but the company goofed on my order and never sent it to my. On a serious note, it's amazing how much cr@p you get just for saying you're a feminist. My other rant is to hear so many women say things like "I'm not a feminist, but ..." fill in some idea about sex equality.

Non-trad Med, I can thank my catholic upbringing for lots of my social justice ideas. I have a lot of anger at the catholic church for lots of reasons, but that's one area where they really get it right.

Ditto to all this. Except for the Catholic upbringing part (I was Anglican, aka Episcopalian).

People hear "feminist", and assume I'm angry all the time... which, unfortunately, proceeds to make me angry.

Girls are scared of being called feminists. They think boys won't like them. Kind of how so many girls morphed from "top of the class" to "complete airheads" in the summer before high school, does anyone else remember that?
I reassure them that your major problem in life will be shutting boys down, not getting them interested. (If you've got a vagina, and you're willing to share it with them, they'll be interested.) Besides, being an angry feminist has the wonderful side effect of rapidly separating the wheat from the chaff -so you can wind up with a secure, caring guy who adores everything about you.

i agree...i'm ex-catholic as well, and i really do think that 16 years of church every sunday and catechism every tuesday and thursday after school did really influence my sense of social justice. i mean, i don't believe in god, or that jesus is the son of a god, but whatever he was -- a real individual, a fictional person made up to teach moral lessons, etc., it's a great character and the ideals are fantastic. and clearly the root of my socialism, as loathe as i am to attribute anything good to my catholic imprisonment.

agreed. guys who can handle feminists are not all whimps, and guys who can't handle us are just insecure and, at base, sexist and part of the problem. not to mention not anywhere near as good in bed.

i love the whole well-grounded theory that homophobia and gay-hate is just misogyny, and that there's a really good reason why queer rights and women's rights need to be fought for together, with joint effort.

speaking of all this...anyone know any good 1-year gender studies certificate programs in the NYC area? my med school schedule looks flexible enough to handle one, maybe, and since i want to open up a/many clinic(s) for those of all genders/orientations who participate in the world's oldest profession, i'd like to have that ideological background. plus, as much memorization and time as med school will take, it doesn't look very intellectual, if that makes any sense...i like theory and ideas and debate and i think i'll miss it too much without some outlet for it. med school is professional school, it's not grad school really...

Yup, heterosexual couples with the most equality between the sexes (in domestic tasks, and SES, etc.) have the highest measured psychological well-being for BOTH partners (and better, more frequent sex).

I agree with this, though I've never liked the term "homophobia". (I much prefer "heterosexism".)

Sorry, no... But I do know a whole lot of radical educated activist women in the NYC area, does that count? :)
I recommend checking out the New School. Very progressive university, they probably have something worthwhile.

I watched it online, and it was brilliant. You're right -- it shows how out of touch the people who coordinated the dinner were.

It was meant to be a "roast" of the President, so some sarcasm and joking was to be expected - but not the clear and ringing criticism Colbert delivered (covered with humour of course, but still really really biting).

I think they thought he would show "respect" and not go as far as he did, that it would be humourous and light... but there's not a whole lot to respect about Bush, they seemed to have forgotten that. ;) Somebody got fired over this, for sure. But it will go down in history! As Jon Stewart said, it was... balls-a-licious! squareDR, you should look it up online. It's 20 minutes of unbridled joy (for us).

yes. so many choice quotes...my favorite being (at the moment) "one of the president's greatest qualities is his consistency. he will believe on wednesday what he believed on monday, no matte what happens on tuesday"

A couple of months ago I attended an event on capital hill to lobby for malpractice tort reform. Bill Frist and several other high-profile politicians spoke at the press conference, and all of them used it as an opportunity to plug the republican party. I hate that. I hate that the politicians who support gay marriage (or something similar) are the ones who don't support tort reform. This puts gay physicians in a bit of a predicament. Do I support politicians who support me as a physician or do I support politicians who support me as a person? Obviously I have to go with the ones who support me as a person.

I went to Marylin Musgrave's office. She is evil (megga conservative anti-gay). But she supports tort reform. Can you imagine what it is like to ask the devil for support? That is exactly what I had to do. It was dreadful. I felt dirty. Why can't liberal politicians just support healthcare and quit giving that issue to the republicans!?

newyorkcougar said:

Sigh. Liberal politicians DO support healthcare. Conservative politicians support physicians.

The decision is which you place more highly: improving healthcare coverage and quality for the underserved (liberal policies) or improving salaries, insurance, and legal coverage for physicians (conservative policies).

If anyone really believe that the conservative agenda is really to improve conditions for the poor and underinsured or that the liberal agenda is to improve conditions for the top 2% earners like physicians at the expense of the poor, I have a bridge to sell you...

btg (= by the gay?), this weekend is Pride weekend in San Francisco (LGBT Pride Parade and Celebration). The motto is Comemmorate, Educate, and Liberate. If you live in the SF Bay Area, stop by for the celebration noon-6pm on Saturday (Civic Center) or the parade down Market at 10:30am followed by celebration noon-7pm (Civic Center).

It's a great weekend every year. Lots of food/drink, great speakers and boohths. Cheers...
