Any love from Oklahoma State?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't heard anything either, but I'm not an OK resident, been complete since July.

They called about 2 weeks ago for an interview and I withdrew.

Oh, and I am out of state if you wanted that info too.

They've been interviewing for just less than a month. Not sure how many they've done yet. Most of the interviews end up being in Jan-March, so no worries at this point.

If you haven't already, call them and make sure that they really do have everything.

Good luck you guys! :luck:

OSU called me last Wednesday for an interview (1/6)

raDiOnut

We've had about 5 or 6 interview days so far in the past couple of weeks. There have been both in-state and out of state residents at these interviews.

Keep in mind that even though I interviewed the week before Thanksgiving, and was accepted a week later, my study partner was interviewed in March, then placed on a waiting list, and accepted only a couple of weeks before school began.

I just got word from OSU-COM that they recieved my letters of recommendation via Interfolio, and that they will not accept them. Has anyone else run into this problem?

OSU called me today to invite for an interview... But I withdrew my application 'cause I got in at my state school, so hopefully another person will get that spot.

Good luck guys, I'll miss the chance of getting to meet some of you OSU folks.

No. I used interfolio.com to forward my LORs and have not heard a negative peep from OSU. If that is their position, I will have a few words for them 😡 . I'll keep quiet unless they contact me though. I'm a long term Okie, recently removed to Tejas. No love yet.

OSUdoc08: interfolio forwards LORs just like a school med committee would. You can elect to waive your rights to see the letters, thus keeping the writers true opinion private. Once scanned in at interfolio, you can send them wherever you wish at any time (for a small fee) with out bugging the LOR writers for freshly minted originals. Very cool 👍

They sent me an email today about their not accepting my letters through Interfolio. I understand if they don't want to accept them, but they received them THREE months ago and are just now informing me they will not allow them! Needless to say I was a little upset.

They accepted all of mine from Interfolio and invited me to interview. Don't know what happened with yours. maybe there is another reason that they denied them.

I wouldn't worry about it, they've only had 3 weeks of interviews and they are good about sending out invites to interview within a week of the completion of your application. But I can understand the frustration, but don't fret OSU-COM is one of the better schools in the application process

How could they accept yours and not mine? Has anyone else had this problem, or have an advice?

they called me last wednesday to schedule an interview, but i declined and had to write a statement withdrawing my app from their program.

My advice is have the people writing the recommendations send a hard copy. That is the only reliable way. I wouldn't ever risk sending it online.

Interfolio is the "official" LOR service for many undergraduate schools, including MSU. I had no problems whatsoever with any of the schools I applied to.

OSU-COM called me yesterday to schedule an interview!! I go next Thursday (Dec. 2). WOO-HOO!!! 😀

Interfolio.com does not require online transmission of the LORs although it is an option. I too thought hardcopies were the way to go. emails are too easy to lose, pass over, or delete.

Hey, Dr. Mom, are you very familiar with Dr. Ken Miller? I met him yesterday at the med school (he taught my cousin at OU Med a few years ago, so my cousin took me to meet him to get advice about the school, research, etc.), and he took me on a "grand tour" of OSUCOM. I was very impressed with the facilities! Dr. Miller was SO nice, as was everyone else we ran into. I'm really nervous about my interview now....I just want them to like me...LOL Do you have any pointers?

No reason to be nervous about the interview; it is in a relaxed setting. Be prepared to answer random questions that may not have right or wrong answers. If you answer confidently, then you will be successful, no matter your response. It is simply more of a conversation to get to know you more than anything else.

Thank you, OSUdoc....I've been reading up on stuff that they could ask about. I don't want my answers to be "rehearsed", but I do like to think things out before I say them. It's kinda hard, not knowing what they'll ask, but that's life, I guess. 🙂 Do they ask alot of controversial questions (abortion, stem cell research, euthanasia, etc.), or mainly straightforward stuff (how would you fix healthcare, etc.)?

Look on the interview section of this website. I have spoken with some students that have interviewed this year, and some of the questions are very similar if not the same.

Alright, good deal. Thank you!

yeah he's nice, but even so, you'll probably change your mind since he teachs neuro.....

just breath and relax, OSU's interviews are not rough at all. OU on the other is a different story.

I'm now officially one of OSU-COM's Class of 2009!! Ya-hoo!!!

Any 1st years out there w/ kids and a husband/wife? I'd like to know more about what I just committed myself to! LOL. 😱

That's pretty much what I heard at the interview and MEDEXTRAVAGANZA, but I'd like a few pointers on how they deal. I've heard that med school isnt so hard, just quick-paced, and if you are already used to juggling school, work, kids, etc. then it is actually a relief to only have to juggle school and kids (w/o the work). My husband is really going to be helping out on the kiddo part, and so is my MIL, but I'd like some real advice from those that have gone through it on what to expect.

AHHH!! I'm in, I'm in, I'm in!! I just got my acceptance letter from OSU!! It was waiting for me when I got home from work tonight! My family was all sitting around with these HUGE smiles on their faces, and I was like, "Hmmm...." And then my mom handed me the FedEx envelope, and I was totally screaming and jumping around! LOL Anyway, I'm pretty excited, in case you can't tell..... 😀

So does anyone know how the clinical facilities at OSU compare to OU's? I know that the patient contact opportunities are fairly varied at OU since the health complex is there next to campus with all the hospitals and clinics. But I haven't really seen much on the healthcare facilities OSU is affiliated with. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi all! I sent in my paperwork and deposit several weeks ago, and other than the check going through the bank, I haven't heard ANYTHING from OSU! I'm just really paranoid that for some reason I'll screw up the paperwork or something and will end up not getting to matriculate, 'cause that just seems to be the way my luck runs! LOL. Did anyone hear anything from OSU after they sent in the acceptance paperwork/deposit? Am I just being too anxious or what? I guess I better call Leah Hanes on Monday just to make sure I'm not forgetting something that will totally knock me out of med school! I know it's crazy, I've just waited and dreamed about this for so long, I'm just a little afraid that it is all going to disappear like vapor!!! :scared:

The health care center is 2 blocks south of the school, TRMC is 2 block north. We have far more pt contact than OU from what I've heard talking with my friends over at OU........

I love OKSTATE!!!!!!!!!
Great semester just gone....

I had my interveiw on Dec. 1 and I recieved my Fedx acceptance letter on Dec. 13. I then hand carried my deposit to the school the next day since I live in Jenks. I called the school a few days before Christmas just to make sure there were no problems. The ladies in the office were very sweet. They understood that I was so excited. So I don't think they would mind if you gave them a call to check on the status or any other questions. OSU-COM seems like a great family atmosphere. Everyone seemed to know everyone's name and seems very interested in each others success. 🙂

OSU is my top choice, but all I have heard is my file was completed the third week of November. Then all was silent. 🙁

Interviews go through March/April, so there's still a bunch of time. You can always call them and ask your status &/or send them a letter letting them know that the school is your first choice.

Same here. They sure interview late in the cycle. I'm applying out of state, but have 25 years of OK residency under my belt. Hopefully that will count for something.

Sorry obout the bowl game loss Cowboy's. I ran across some of your fans down here in the DFW area.

I've been too afraid to call. I kind of thought they probably get lots of calls and get tired of it. Also, I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that the holidays aren't the best time in the year to process applications. Maybe I'm just making excuses, though.

They love ur calls... It indicates a desire to be at this fine institution....

Best of Luck!

Go ahead and call. Don't worry about them getting tired of it, from what I've seen they enjoy their jobs and the student interactions it just as long as you aren't beligerent. OSU-COM is a great school, good luck with your application

It seemed that way when I visited and toured the school in spring of 2003. Everyone was nice and really helpful. I even met DrMom! The professors that I met were really nice, I even had a long chat with Dr. Watson about the medical scientist program. And I loved Tulsa. The Spaghetti Warehouse was awesome!

Thanks for the encouragement, I will try to work up the nerve to call, or at least email. 🙂

They told me they don't know what my status is, but I never received an interview. So I guess that it is too late in the cycle to expect much. I will be staying at my current university to complete a master's degree in biology and then reapply.
