I'm on the waitlist. Does anyone know when they will start pulling from this list 😕 ? Ugh, I will be so glad when all of this is over. I'm just sick of not knowing - uncertainty....I guess that is our future for a while.

I am also on the waitlist, and I agree - it SUCKS!

When I interviewed they told us that they actually review applicants on the waitlist for acceptances everytime they have a new group of interviewers. Then once the interviews end (in april I believe) and the final acceptances and waitlist are determined they basically hassle everyone holding a spot in the class with things they need to do to get ready for the start of class. This motivates people to drop their spot in the class if they are not serious about going to OSU-COM. So, technically they pull people of the waitlist almost on a continual basis from the first interviews until the start of class.

exactly.

Thanks, that makes me feel worse  .

Dr.MoM,
In your opinion, does it help you chances if you send a letter of intent or additional recommendation letters? I have heard of applicants on the waitlist at other schools doing this, but I was not sure if this was "acceptable" or not at OSU.

I know I am not DrMom, but she answered this question for me once.... last year.... and It cannot hurt, as for if it helps depends on how good of a prospect you really are.... I have heard that there were a couple of people that had really bad interviews, IE FROZE, and wrote a letter of intent and in short time received an acceptance.....

Does anyone know when OSU-COM sends out the financial aid award letters for incoming students? Or does anyone know an email address for someone in the financial aid office. I can't find one anywhere.
Thanks

I know the pros and cons of OU and OSU-COM have been talked about a little bit on other threads. And I know someone is going to say pick which one is the best fit for you, or something like that. But I'm still going to ask....

I've been accpeted at both of our fine state schools and I'm really torn as to which one I like better. Anyone else on here in the same situation?

I liked the atmosphere at OSU. Seemed very close-knit and maybe more laid-back and a bit friendlier than OU. But, I wasn't very impressed with their facilities. And I think it would get pretty old being in that one building all the time. I realize you spend a lot of time in the mods at OU, but you have all the hospitals and the other hsc colleges surrounding you. OU's campus just feels more like a med school to me. Plus I liked the fact that OU gives you so much info between the note groups and hippocrates that you can legitimately homeschool to a large extent. I remember OSU students saying that there was very little homeschooling there.

And as far as DO vs MD I think that I would receive a great education at either school. I would love to learn OMM, and I know that DO's are well respected and that OU goes up to Tulsa to recruit OSU students for residency spots and all that. But, I'm still worried that if I decide to pursue a competitive specialty that I might be fighting more of an uphill battle as a DO.

So, as you can tell I like a lot about both schools. Surely there are others out there with similar thoughts... So, how about sharing. I would love to hear someone else's point of view.
Thanks

p.s. I'm also posting this on the MD forum.

Do you have any particular specialties you are interested in, or are you pretty much undecided? I want to do emergency medicine, and OSU has 2 residencies, but OU has none. In fact if you want to do ER as an MD, you have to leave the state for training. They are actually opening a 3rd ER residency for DO's in the state.

By the way, you are given all the notes and people email each other reviews, so you can pretty much homeschool if you want to.

Our hospital is actually adjacent to the school, and our campus is very nice, and being upgraded all the time. I'm glad I don't have to walk far between labs and lectures.

I just got an email from OSU indicating that they are about to pick their final round of people to interview and wanted to know if I am still interested.

ok, so you said yes, right?

congrats!

Of course. It's a long shot, but I'll take it! 😀

Go in there thinking you're in.

Chances are better than you think.

good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement. I don't want to get my hopes up too much, though. Besides, I was looking forward to 2 more years to get into shape before OMM lab... 😳 Oh well, I would probably just squander it again anyway.

where is this at, and when?

I dont want to get my hopes up, these things take time to "pan-out"

I got the email too. Of course, I immediately called and said "pick me, pick me."

Good luck to you jkhamlin. Maybe we'll both get called up for that interview.

I just replied with a desperate sounding email. 😀 You called; what did they say?

It took a bit longer, but I got the call this morning. OSU offered 3/29- 4/1 for interviews. I chose Friday 4/1 due to work conflicts.

Good luck to everyone. Maybe I'll see fellow interviewees and students on 4/1. I can't wait to learn more. 😀

DrDad, OSUdoc08, and others: It would be really cool to meet you guys if you have time. It appears that we will be just sitting around for about 3 hours (9-12) while waiting to be called for an interview. We are supposed to be in room D-101 whatever that means.

JK,
I will see you on the 28th. Congratulations on your interview. Good luck.

Does anyone know of any good places to do volunteer work to pad application. I have worked at a hospital for 5 years, but want to do some volunteer work also. Anywhere in the Tulsa or Muskogee area. Thanks.

I interviewed in early February at OSU, and received notice that I had been waitlisted shortly there after. I was wondering if any other applicants who were waitlisted for this year’s class have been accepted?

I was waitlisted early December...still there.

I know alot of people in my class that were waitlisted and accepted later. The girl I study with wasn't even accepted until the beginning of August.

What's your best guess at the percentage of the class that comes from the waitlist?

Thanks for the positivity. I have heard the stories about people getting a call the day before classes are to begin. It definitely instills hope. Still, the anxiety and impatience ensues.

I'm not sure about that information. I can tell you however, that there was an entire group of interviewers (the very last day of interviews in fact) that are now all in our class. They were told that there were zero open spots and were all waitlisted.

That again, is encouraging. Thanks.

I really liked OSU, and I would definitely be excited about being accepted no matter what point in the process it was. However, it would suck to get a call the day before classes start.

US News rankings are out.

OSU moved from 13th to 11th in Rural Medicine and

from 17th to 16th in Family Medicine.

I just interviewed on Monday. I was the first one. 😱 It was all fun, though. All of the faculty and staff was nice and friendly, just as I remember from when I visited 2 years ago. Medical students stopped by all day and chatted with us, and the student ambassadors were very enthusiastic. DrDad stopped by for a while and talked; thanks DrDad!
Even though it was stressful, and there was no way of changing that, I had a lot of fun. The Crowne Plaza deal that they arrange is neat and it is blocks away from the Spaghetti Warehouse. If you go to Tulsa, you should eat there! Tulsa is a really cool town. I stayed an extra day and went to the zoo and the Tulsa Aquarium.
I hope I get in, I love everything about OSU and Tulsa 😀 (except the turnpikes 😡 ).

Well, I have an answer for you. According to OSU admissions as of yesterday, they typically wind up with ~50% of the final class coming from the waitlist. That means they have a lot of move ment, which is good. They also said there were currently only three open seats. 👎

OSUDoc08, what you said about late cycle interviewers and waitlisting is encouraging. I think the odds of acceptance from the waitlist are better than 1/2 for interviewed applicants.

According to USNews data, O-o-S interviewees numbered 36. Accepted 32. Attended 8. Since I read on OSU CHS site that 48 O-o-S applicants were interviewed for Class of 2008, the USNews data was from a prior year.

They said a FedEx big letter is NOT the waitlist 😱

I was impressed with the school and the cohesive environment. Thanks to those student ambassadors who shared their time 🙂 It was a nice visit to T-town.

Has anyone who has interviewed recently, or hasn't heard from them about you interview heard from them yet? I have to wait until after 5 to check my mail today because I am on campus all day until then. I'm thinking sometime this week, but it could be next week too.
