Any Non-Science Majors?

Just wondering if SDN would have any. Im a third year History major and Middle Eastern Studies Minor at Georgia State.
 
I graduated in May with a double major in English and Communication. Also have a minor in psychology.

Even though I am not a science major, I found out last week that I recieved the highest recommendation from my university's (University of Delaware) pre-med committee. I'm now considering applying to med schools that I once thought I should never even bother with.

On top of this, I am a non-traditional student, so I really never expected to get the highest recommendation. Not meaning to brag, but I just want to encourage you. I think it is a huge benefit to be a nonscience major as an undergrad before going to med school. Good luck!
 
I'm a social work major, math minor. Didn't originally plan on med school when I picked my major, but every doc I've talked to has said that it will really serve me well as a physician. Hopefully med schools agree! 😛
 
Hey, I'm a business major along with pre-med (unusual combination). However I've talked to people who seem intrigued by the idea and seem to say that it would definitely help in the future, in a number of potential ways. Not too many of my type, though I have heard of people majoring in Economics and doing premed.

Is it really a big advantage to come from a non-science major? I would think that it'd give adcoms a break after seeing bio, chem, biochem, etc. over and over again. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.
 
I'm a music major, and I'll probably fit in a chemistry minor. I wanted to do a German minior, but since I became pre-med, I have no time 🙁
 
history. johns hopkins secondary asks you to explain why you chose your major. i figure my essay will be more itneresting than a bio major,. baby crying, sorry for the typos gotta go!
 
Philosophy and Psychology double here....probably a little out of the ordinary for med school...
 
I'm also a Business major with minors in computer science and chemistry.
 
I majored in finance and it did not make a difference either way, not even a hint of an "oh neat" factor from interviewers. It just goes to show it doesn't matter what you study. Looking back, I'm REALY glad I studied finance instead of bio.
 
im a business major and it's pretty much all the interviewers wanted to talk about at wake forest. definitely nice to take a break from science courses too!
 
I just graduated this May with a BA in English and a minor in Psychology. I'm getting an MS in Physiology, but I can never be a science major at heart.
 
Anthropology major here...lovin it!
 
History of Art and pre-med here. It was a nice balance having all the heavy science in the morning and then having to learn Italian in the afternoon.
 
Psychology major 4-lyf!! I love the stuff, and figure it'll be something fun to talk about at interviews...
 
Economics, with minors in chemistry (simply for the prereqs) and photography. I'll also be taking two foreign language "blocks" -- roughly the same amount of credit as a minor. Spanish (intensive one semester in Spain), and Arabic.
 
Elec. Engineering ...wanted to do a minor but the college of engineering at UT-Austin doesn't award minors...even if you have already completed enough hours for one...."it takes time away from engineering courses" 😕. If i could do it over again, I'd double major in Math/Chem and Music...that combo would have probably given me the nice victory lap yr instead of finishing in 4 :sigh:
 
I was an English Writing (nonfiction track) major, with certificates in Children's Literature and Conceptual Foundations of Medicine. Starting school in a little over a month! 🙂
 
This always confused the hell out me. Is engineering considered a science or non-science. Do schools include it in their "non-science" category when report class demographics and characteristics? Can I get a recommendation from my teacher and classify it as a science recommedation?
 
BA in History and French. Post bacc in gen-sci, chem minor. Maybe the ol' interviewer will want to talk about WWI or 16th C french novels! we can but hope.
 
my school told me that engineering doesn't count as science. fine by me. if people ask me why i chose chemical engineering, i just say i wanted to take the scenic route. i also chose it so i would have a job "just in case". but i got in somewhere, but i'm glad i did engineering...we are taught to look at problems differently and we don't have to memorize silly things. plus engineers are sexy.
 
Computer Engineer and biomed sciences major right here...although I may fit in a Computer Science degree as well...

I am worried about applying tho since I've gotten one C for each of the past two semesters, one in an engineering class and the other in Bio II 🙁 Man I really hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass...
 
I have a buddy of mine who is an Elementary Education major and pre-med. It's a long story...

I'm a nontrad Electrical Engineer that has 10+ years of work expereince.

Trust me, engineering is NOT science.
 
I'm glad i majored in something outsides of the hard sciences..i get to take a lot of classes that i'm really interested while still fulfilling the pre-med prereqs.
but then i get stuck with those questions...Anthropology? "What is that" "What can you do with that"..."Why aren't you a bio major"...i constantly tell people i'm headed into medicine..it gets annoying...anyone else get that too (for your majors)?
 
B.A.A.S. (Concentration in Marketing w/ internship in television production). Post-bacc in Journalism....why? I've already worked in the field and I need the A's.

I actually get less of these questions then I thought I would initially.

English major, pre-med, and some graduate level science courses taken while an undergrad, too.
 
Economics major chemistry minor. Lots of research to try to show proficiency in science.
 
AB in political science and BS in biology, with a neuroscience minor. Study what most interests you.
 
English major. the interviewers seem to love that and ask me for book recommendations.
 
Accounting Major, no minor. I am suprised that I am not the only person applying with a business related major.
 
Aviation....organic chem to flying a plane.
 
Economics major here. Makes my interviews pretty health policy oriented.
 
Religion major. It has sparked a lot of conversation at interviews.

Nice. There's a book on Christian medical ethics that might interest you.. it's called "Being a Christian in a Brave New World"... just a thought. Not sure exactly which religions you are studying, but might be of use (in interviews at least) 🙂
 
Comparative Literature (Latin Emphasis) & Neurobiology. Got into Comp Lit because it looked good on an app and I was bored, stayed in because it's so damn fascinating. However, if you're not a science major, there's a tacit expectation to maintain a higher GPA. It might not be universally true, but it's out there.
 
I'm an electrical/computer engineering major + Biomedical engineering major + Chemistry Minor.

I'm a Spanish major/English minor but I am thinking about switching my minor to Bio or Chem...
 
French major, natural sciences minor (I am calling it like that because I took a bunch of science classes on the side)
 
BA in Religion with minors in Psych and History. For people who majored in something other than a science, when the interviewer asks what you'll bring to (insert name here), you can always say diversity.

Ditto, but change chemistry for philosophy. That one was actually a surprise...I just recently was told I qualified to receive a philosophy minor.
