wow this is like the 3rd time i have done this..that secondary is a real deterrent.
i go to georgetown it is awesome, and i have to admit i thought the same thing about the school before i applied.. is it worth my time/money to do this or am i gonna get immediately rejected? Well, who knows, but I thought i was going to get a rejection and i got an interview and ended up getting in,
In my opinion, Gtown looks for two kinds of applicants. The traditional high mcat, high gpa, research boring types, and non-traditional applicants who really have motivation to go there and become a doctor. In other words, if you are not the kind of applicant schools are going to be drueling over for statistics sake, you have to be very forward and enthusiastic about becoming a doctor, and make them believe (while the guy with the high mcat score represents the school well in that way) you will represent gtown out in the real world as a nice, caring doctor that people will live and associate with georgetown.
Well, i think that is their strategy anyway. Let me also add it was the only place i got in, and the best school i interviewed at, which shows this process is ridiculous and you never know, so yes apply! it could mean the difference between MD and not.
PROS: cool city, cool area, top notch faculty, they emphasize that they want all of their studenst to graduate and are very supportive, good match statistics (the gtown name). and early exposure to patients (like the first day)
CONS: Expensive, Pass ,High Pass, Honors Grading system feeds into gunner mentality, lots of in-class time.
