Anyone below a 30?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yep! 26Q and officially a student of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine! Woohoo! 👍 👍 👍 😀

everyone has to realize that the people who post their scores on a public service are proud of their scores...the national average on the mcat is still a 27... so don't fret guys and dont let these other people put u down here with their boasting!!!

The national average is actually a 24, not a 27- so really, don't let all these high posted scores freak you out. People will post if they are happy wth their scores, which is why the sample here is skewed upwards.

Actually, that national average is 24-25, 27-29 is the national average for matriculants!

Crap! I scored a 26Q. That must mean that I am neither a future matriculant, nor fit enough to be part of the rest of the average group...wait, that makes no sense...okay, I'm starting to realize exactly why I scored a 26, but a 10V? Stupid test 🙂

KIDS! Let Auntie Brickhouse make everyone feel better. Why, I was once like you not too long ago, sniffling about my bad MCAT score....

You will be just fine with your sub-30s - apply now and apply confidently!! I am going to med school in August and I got a frickin' 29P and I'm in frickin' California!! I cried when I got my score, but I'm smiling big now.

Just keep moving forward!! They can take our lives but they can't take our freedom!!!

Thats the best thing I've heard all day!

AMCAS, completed, submitted, and processed.
ACOMAS soon to follow

You're golden - no worries. MCAT is a cruel sick joke anyway, in 5 years when you are being handed your medical degree, you won't even remember what you got.

Everyone did so well...it's making me feel a little indadequate 🙁 😳

Good job all though 👍

Don't you worry one bit, like Brick is saying! These scores people are posting are ludicrous, and I ain't talking about the rapper. Not a single person I know got higher than 30 last year and every last one is going to medical school! You will do great! :luck: :luck:

26M, but I have a 4.0......my state school averages a 27. Should I just give it a shot and see what happens? I am really dreading the thought of retaking.....any opinions?

but anything below a 29 is pushing it. .

I don't understand why everybody says stuff like this. The average MD matriculant score is 28. That means there are many people above that AND many people below that that got into medical school.

That is incorrect I will go find the link that states that the average for incoming students is like a 29. something...hold on.

Even if its 29, my point is still made.

I have to disagree and that is okay, but with a sub 29 your chances are lower (not impossible) than if you have a 29 or above. Also remember that those individuals getting in with lesser MCAT are often times URM. But you do not have to take my word just go look at that web page.

I never said your chances are not lower if your MCAT is lower, of course they are. Nevermind, I guess all that stuff I learned in stats about distributions AROUND an average is just BS.

me, oh me. twice. does that means i'm doubly subpar?! ohhhhh...

10V, 8P, 10B - 28M
9V, 9P, 10B - 28Q

=T

Nobody saying that what you learned is BS but sometimes folks here on SDN are just to "let us hold hands and sing cumbaya like" it is good that we do give our different opinions. I tend to err on the side of caution. Yes, you CAN get into medical school with scores as low as 25 I know someone that is attending UT Memphis with a 25 BUT if the score is low it is low.

Auntie Brickhouse, you just made my day. I hope to see you in your California medical school next year!!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to post in here to tell you not to feel crappy about your score and to stay positive 🙂

I remember coming onto SDN last year, and seeing everyone posting their 33+ scores and feeling like a total loser with my 29R. Like Brickhouse I am a Californian and had been told over and over I needed at least a 30, morelikely a 33 or more, to have good luck in the process. I really thought my chances at a UC were over, and was wondering if I should retake since a 29 is a score that is not bad but not great.

So a year later here I am with a UC acceptance to one of my top choice schools. I got a lot of secondaries, multiple interviews both in and outside of CA, and even ended up waitlisted at Stanford, which I never even dreamed of with my 29. Don't give up, apply and see what happens. It's a total crapshoot and you really never know. Best of luck with the application process 🙂

Hey LoneCoyote,
I am interesting in UCD also. I got a 29 and I am just wondering what your GPA was, if you don't mind.

From AAMC Statistics
Average for 2003 matriculants is: VR 9.5 PS 9.9 BS 10.2 GPA AVERAGE 3.62
With Stand deviation 1.7 1.9 1.6
The total of matriculants is 16538

So the TOTAL?s mean is 29.7 with STD of 3.01(standard deviation )
STD is calculated as follow
STD = SQRT(1.7**2 + 1.9**2 + 1.6**2) = 3.01

According to Gaussian Distribution
68.3 % of matriculants have scores between 26.7 and 32.7
95.5 % --------------------------------------------23.7 and 36.7

18.67 % HAVE SCORES LESS THAN or EQUAL to 27

This is the breakdown for MCAT scores between 24 and 36

Score--Cumulative %---Number of Matriculants
24 ----------2.94-----------574
25----------6.06-----------1184
26----------11.20----------1852
27----------18.67----------3088
28----------29.12----------4816
29----------41.29----------6829
30----------53.98----------8927
31----------66.64----------11020
32----------77.34----------12790
33----------86.21----------14257
34----------92.22----------15251
35----------95.99----------15874
35----------98.17----------16235

Only 303 matriculants have MCAT scores >= 37.
