So it's been three weeks since I received my last interview invitation. The schools I received invitations from invited me almost right away, within about one week. The rest of the schools I haven't heard back from for a long time. To me, this is a bad sign. If a school is interested in me it would invite me as soon as the adcom looks through my application. I understand that some schools are really backed up and maybe they really haven't gotten the chance to look at my application. For other schools, maybe they've already decided not to consider my application any further and are just waiting to catch up on all they work before sending out rejection letters, which may be several months from now. From my experience last cycle, it seems to me that if schools don't contact you pretty quickly then they've already rejected you and are just too busy or lazy to tell you. Has anyone ever had the experience of receiving an interview invitation more than two months after completing?

eh its still early in the season. the volume is pretty heavy on their end, and most ppl here were complete before the secondaries even came out.

i wouldnt worry. if its november and still nothing, then maybe contact an adviser

I'm currently "Under Review" at a number of places (Temple (apparently I've been "under review" since the medical school was built - my status hasn't changed in a long time) & PCOM) and haven't any clue where I stand at others (Jefferson).

wow, my sentiments exactly. You remember that movie "boiler room" where they sold fake stock and ripped off all those people? I feel like they took our money and closed shop.

I had everything submitted early august and a few schools still haven't received my recommendation letters yet. (GW and Jefferson) They need to have a rule that states the school must declare you complete before they can cash your check.

Yes, two invites mid-August and then nothing.......😴🙁....I don't know. I think that it's still fairly early. Good Luck.

most of the bigger, top schools get an crazy number of applications, and take there time. The are probably still dealing with ED's. Lots of schools will wait until at least october to start interviewing and very realistically, we will hopefully get a bunch of interview in the feb-march area

Hopefully we will NOT be interviewing in February or March. The class is mostly filled at that point and we'd be interviewing for waitlist spots. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Vanderbilt didn't send me their secondary/invitation until a month after I verified my primary.

I am in the same position, they were rolling in all within a two week period and then suddenly stopped as quickly as they started. It has been silent for too long now.

Has anyone tried to call Jefferson to check on their status?
I called Jefferson last week because they still had me as incomplete wihtout my letters, even thoguh they had been there for well over a month. They changed me to complete and were very nice on the phone.

I've been blowing up jefferson since I got invites at temple and drexel about a month ago and I got good feedback though they still haven't invited me to interview, whatever.

And I'm sure the majority of the people on this forum pretty much hate us all right now for ONLY getting invites real early, but I definitely feel the same about a lot of the schools I applied to, and I've been bugging the **** out of mt sinai. It paid off at Albert Einstein but those d*mn mt sinai'ers.

I feel that many of the med schools have gone through the applications and only invited their top choices at the moment. Thing is, many of these top choices have multiple invites and will start turning down and cancelling invitations come November. Also, they are likely being somewhat conservative with invites since there are still some new applications expected before the end of October, so they don't want to commit to interviewing too many people. We are sitting tight waiting for the sloppy seconds to come.

Of course, this is just what I am telling myself to keep myself calm. Take it with a whole heaping of salt.

add me to the list too...

some schools are just painfully slow. stanford and brown hasn't even logged my recs after a month! others are completely silent after the "you've complete ur app at our place" email.

Actually, I think you have it right...it is very early...people are working up to a fever pitch over this stuff, and they need to keep in mind that they may be going through this 6 to 7 months from now, including waitlist hell, etc...

yeah, i got a ton of invites early from the average schools, but I haven't heard from any of my heavy hitters yet. (Brown, Dartmouth, U of California schools) Hopefully it will pick up soon

Actually this is what my "pre-med advisor" (a friend from high school who is finishing up his fellowship in MFM) told me just the other day, so maybe not so much salt is required after all. It mostly keeps the anxiety at bay. Mostly.

at least we are all in the same position. we cant expect it to continue how it did at the very beginning when they were just starting to invite people. now they are actually interviewing and dealing with evaluating interviewed applicants. i dont think that the invites will gush anymore. probably more of a slow trickle from now on. we were spoiled with fast turnaround early in the season. now our patience will be tested. :scared:

Yeah, I got one interview invite 2 weeks ago and then have heard jack ever since. The thing is, before I got that interview, I was prepared to wait a long time before I hear back from the schools. That interview gave me hope that perhaps I was going to hear back sooner than I thought. Oh well, back to the eternal wait...

I got my six invites in about three weeks and then I havent heard anything for two weeks. It seems a lot of people are also waiting on jefferson, which makes me hopefully that they have only invited their really top choices and they will come back to my application. Jefferson is really the only school I still check every day for (actually I check my status several times a day haha)

Can any one who is currently in med school say of they got invites over a month after the initial rush?

Look at the interview invite threads. If schools you have applied to have given out MANY interviews already and you were complete around the time people getting interviews were complete then I'd assume you didn't get an initial interview -- you may very well still get one--- at that place.

If on the other hand you were complete after people who are getting invites -- don't worry they probably didnt even look at your application yet.

Same goes for if no-- or very few-- invites were given out.

Stop worrying, it won't help you get into med school 🙂

if it helps, i was complete at case a loooong time ago, and started freaking out because everyone else who was complete after me was getting interviews. 2 months later, i got an interview. who knows what goes on in the admissions office... i guess all we can do is wait.

this has been a quiet week with only rejections for me.

Several in August, then nothing since for me.

I've heard that with at least 1 top school they look to fill about 30% of their class with the very top candidates first (probably many were in this first wave). After that they spend more time with the rest of the crowd, trying to carefully distinguish who they want from the pile of essays, numbers etc. One very blunt adcom told me that I would be "a top candidate among second tier applicants." 🙄 hmmm, I guess that means I'll have to wait a bit at this time.

Good thing is that the 1st person admitted to fill up a med school class is no different than the last person admitted in the end. The slate is pretty much wiped clean upon admittance.

I just talked to Jefferson and they said I am "still under review" which probably means I too am a second tier candidate (maybe).

I'm going through a huge pause in interview invites. I've been complete at most of these schools since the end of August...so it's a bit worrying why I haven't heard back. I hope it isn't because of some gaping problem with my application that is resulting me being placed in a perpetual "Under Preliminary Review"

Sigh.

I figure that you have nothing to worry about with your application if you have already received an interview. What type of crazy med school would give someone with gaping holes in their application an early interview?

Ah, just part of the neuroticism I guess. Most of it revolves around LORs because I have little control or knowledge over them. I guess I'd feel better if I knew the interview selection process for the schools that I have heard back from included a evaluation of essays/LORs.

I read this thread and was about to reply and agree, but I just another one through email today. It always comes when it's least expected...

Also, has anyone heard anything from Baylor? My file's been completed and under review for over a month now.

what'd you get?

I thought it was a good sign when I got my Case interview several weeks ago, but 100 or so e-mail checks later, no other schools have shown any interest. I know it's probably not my only invite (man, I hope not), but in the meantime, I can't help but wonder if I wrote really good essays for Case or something, and if I should've used those ideas at other schools. I did spend a lot of time on those two beasts of an essay for the Case secondary.

Er... that's not necessarily true. Most importantly, you want to get in "early" because of that nice free federal aid that you can have access to. Getting in the day before class starts guarantees that all you will get is loans. Everyone likes free money!

Just bein' positive, RealMD. My POV was in regard to the big picture. The last person admitted to Med School X will be a doctor just as much as the first person admitted to Med School X.

what'd you get?

MC of Georgia.

This is like crack. It makes you check your email and status like 20 times a day. I guess it's going to be that way until March or whenever we hear back from all of the schools.

Good luck to everyone!

congrats! it is the best feeling when you see the word interview in the subject of an email. addicting.

Yeah, Mt. Sinai isn't being very nice.

That interview gave me hope that perhaps I was going to hear back sooner than I thought.

What's even worse is when you're in the first wave of interviews for the schools you get invites at, and then see another school you applied to fill up until December without contacting you at all. *sighs*

Look at the interview invite threads. If schools you have applied to have given out MANY interviews already and you were complete around the time people getting interviews were complete then I'd assume you didn't get an initial interview -- you may very well still get one--- at that place.

The only thing that keeps me going is that my state school hasn't started inviting yet. If they do, and I'm not near the first wave, I'm going to be very sad.

you know, we need to keep these "where are my interviews" threads going on a regular basis... whenever i start whining in a thread like this, a few hours later, i end up with an interview invite. i think it's happened at least twice so far. 😳

congrats! it is the best feeling when you see the word interview in the subject of an email. addicting.

Haha, thanks. Yea, and then the ones with nothing telling in the subject makes you hold your breath as you're opening it.

Has anyone tried to call Jefferson to check on their status?

Jeff just did their ED interview day yesterday. They interview consistently until about late Feb, early March, and will give you the notification about 3-4 weeks before you're scheduled to go. However, they really won't give you any updates before that, so don't expect much. Either way, there's really no huge advantage to interviewing early, as those who interview late (in theory at least) have an equal chance to get in as those who interview next week.

same here. i think this whole process makes me very short tempered.

if u have the brains to do medicine you should be able to do it. PERIOD.

You get a letter in the mail with a link to the online secondary.

Yeah, Mt. Sinai isn't being very nice.

tell me about it. i too have been bugging them because i'll be in nyc for another interview, and i called and they said to email them. so i email them. then i get a response that says there's nothing they can do becuase i'm still under review (and i have been for over a month now). it's my #1 choice ahhhhh

Yay, I am off hiatus. Just got an invite from NYMC. I'll be having back-to-back interviews at NYMC and Mt. Sinai. Hope they keep comin'

I feel like everyone is coming off of hiatus but me :-(
Fridays used to be my favorite day, when they would come in pairs. Not so much anymore. Keeping fingers crossed that NYU starts offering invites today, and starts with me.
