Anyone else wear scrubs everywhere now?

I appreciate your excitement at being in medical school, but wearing scrubs to run errands give off a "look at me! I'm just so busy saving lives I need to do grocery shopping in scrubs!" vibe. And that's something you're manufacturing because right now you're just a glorified college student. Its not a good look. But you'll get over it; I'd just be aware its on the same level as a premed buying a monogrammed white coat that reads 'Pre-medical Student'.

If you're wearing anatomy scrubs because you want to walk around in public smelling gross I applaud you.

I had a buddy once walk around anatomy lab in socks.

In my area you’re just as likely to be mistaken for a daycare worker or teacher as a healthcare professional for being out in scrubs, so do whatever you want in regards to wearing scrubs in public.

Also, if you don’t want the opinions of those on SDN (good, bad and ugly) don’t ask for them.

If I run an errand while heading to/from work and am wearing scrubs to work that day, well, then I'm wearing scrubs in that store or whatever. There's enough people wearing PJs into the grocery store that wearing scrubs is downright fancy compared to fuzzy spongebob pants and a mismatched faded or hole-y shirt.
But I don't wear scrubs "just because". I don't lounge in them at home. I prefer to lounge in PJs or sweats.

@DrRedstone I thought the ER uniform was the half scrub---either scrub top + khakis, or some sort of hoodie/fleece and scrub bottoms. 😛
 
So my scrubs are grey, with huge pockets, and the bottoms don’t look like scrubs - more like summer linen pants. So I have to admit - I definitely wear them with a T-shirt when I walk my dog . They are comfy and fit my “food baby” after dinner. But like I said they don’t look like scrubs at all .
 
Where do i get these super comfy scrubs everyone is talking about? Theyre the most uncomfortable thing for me, even worse than a button up shirt
 
Had to wear scrubs out for errands once recently on a tight schedule. Felt nasty coming from anatomy then being around food at the grocery store 🤢

For the record, the majority of people arguing with you were actually medical students. And I'm not sure about this magical power that attendings wield. Most of us are here to give advice, engage in mutual snark, and keep our identities a secret from anyone who knows us or employs us.

I think my snark-meter must be off from so much time in the SPF. The only two "inappropriate" reactions I've ever gotten have been in this thread. Oh well, c'est la vie.

This. One of the things I've always despised about the medical community conversation on social media is this fake outrage about things like this. The vast majority of med students WILL end up wearing scrubs to the store for one reason or another, usually because they have to run an errand before or after work. Most would not wear them just because they want to as the OP suggested, but really who cares? People wear way worse to the grocery store and really, if the shopper next to you is so concerned that you're attention-seeking for coming into the store wearing the same thing that literally anyone can buy and is most often seen on EMTs, phlebotomists and techs, that person needs to get a life.

Yeah I mean who really cares. My only hang up about it is that I sure hope they aren’t gross from being in a room with someone with c diff or something.

We’re bickering about wearing damn scrubs in public. Meanwhile noctors are independently practicing “advanced nursing” in over 1/2 the states

Physician stupidity never ceases to amaze me

Honestly, regardless of which “side” you stand on with this thread, it is amazing how rude people behave behind an anonymous name/profile picture.

(Amazing is likely not the correct word here, but I can’t come up with a more appropriate one off the top of my head).

being on an anonymous forum allows people to speak their mind unfiltered. I'd rather have the unfiltered truth of what people actually think if I'm asking for an opinion on something.

True with me at least - I barely know where the engine in my car is, and spend 10 min tried to figured out how to inflate a tire... but I tutor advanced math and biochem and can lecture microbiology ... so definitely “selectively intelligent”. Also horrible judge of character - dated a famous (in certain circles) drug dealer and had NO idea (don’t worry , he paid the price).... followed by an addict - also had no idea . Anyway - yeah . We can be pretty dumb .
