Captain's Log....October 10, 2005....the vessel named U.S. NO INTERVIEW seems to be approaching a great abyss.....estimated time of contact....6 months, 21 days....in the meantime, the crew is suffering from self-pity, insecurity, chronic impulse to refresh web pages and check e-mails....we have lost many to the other side and those remaining are in need for assurance. I would like to send an SOS out and would like to assure the crew that we will all jump ship once our time is here.

shrugs. i'm becoming worn out with this constant waiting and yearning. i'm debating sending an update letter/prelim letter of intent to my favorite schools now. this and a 55hr work week are making me quite grumpy and depressed. oh well.

I've only been complete for 2 and a half weeks so far at most places and it's MSTP so I know it takes longer...But I got my first rejection today, from Hopkins (both MD and MSTP), and I don't really care that much about Hopkins specifically, but I'd feel better if I had an interview in my hand.

So I still haven't heard either, and I've got 17 applications out and complete (since end of august) I just want to say that I hate Columbus Day. Every day I come home from workin' 9-5 and check my mail. It is both the highlight of my day as well as the most depressing moment (as of late, when I have gotten NO mail at all). Yesterday was the worst, I didn't even get junk mail. But then I remembered it was Columbus Day! Blast! Maybe I had mail coming but thanks to Columbus it was delayed.
So now I have my hopes up for the mail today, but will probably get disappointed. It's sad, I have these little routines that I do to wish for mail. Like, I tell myself, "oh if I don't think about it and don't check my mail right away, then that means I'll get something." Geez, I'm losing my mind.
And I just read on another thread from a reapplicant that "no news may not be good news."

Well I have none but that's more because I only got my committee letter done last week.(Well that and busting my undergrad school's ass to write the letter about my academic probation back in the early 90's. Not surprised they were that slow.) Still we'll see once the letter goes out how many interviews I get.

Aaaah! So frustrated. I mean, I probably shouldn't be because I've only been complete at most places since about Sept. 22, but still...
I've got a 38T, 3.75 GPA, six strong letters of recommendation, a lot of extracurricular activities, research with some awards, etc.
And nothing.
I figure it's cuz I'm applying to competitive MSTPs. I hope something comes, it's driving me nuts.

is anybody nervous that our files will be pushed to the back of the pile now that the august mcat scores are out? i'm wondering if the adcoms will be more attentive to the august mcaters who got back stellar results compared to borderliners like moi (30 mcat) even if we took the april mcat and applied earlier... ugh.

according to the AAMC, in 2004 the average applicant data is as follows:
MCAT: 27.3 O
Sci GPA: 3.36
Overal GPA: 3.47
those may have gone up a tad these last two years but not too much.
i dont know about you but that made me feel pretty good. you know, when you see that schools give interviews to one out of six or seven applicants, its good to know that every applicant isn't extremely competitive.
note: i in know way want to offend anyone. this just made me feel better and i think it'll help others through this **** as well. dont get all hissyfitty on my ass. thanks
