Heh...tell me about it. I feel like one of those poor kids huddling out in the cold wrapped in rags while the well-to-do people are inside blasting music and drinking eggnog. Oh why can't I join the party!

On a sidenote, thinking about eggnog led me to postulate a theory as to why my application is in limbo. I think that maybe the admissions directors spilled some sort of beverage on my file, possibly coffee and since the papers are all crinkled and stained the adcoms do not want to touch it. Damn you open beverages at the work place.

I thought the limbo was because they're finalizing all the early decision applicant people, as well as the other paths besides the traditional application approach (e.g. special programs, straight-from-high-school ba/md programs, etc.)

now i am seeing the post list on the "august mcat interviews" thread getting longer(and at schools i applied to that i thought i might have a shot at) and i am thinking they have already looked at my file and passed me over to interview late mcaters. while i am happy for everybody getting interviews, i can't help thinking this is a discouraging sign for me.

are the august mcat people who are getting interviews now people with mcat scores over 40 and 4.0 gpas? or is the whole "early submission means your file will be looked at before late submitters" advantage theory a big lie?

I hate authority figures and believe that they are always pacifying our concerns with lies and vague answers. I agree with your final assumption about the whole "early submission means your file will be looked at before late submitters" advantage theory being a big lie.

But still I would urge you and everyone here to keep hope. Somewhere there's a 3.9/35+ kid turning down an acceptance to a safety school and damn it, one of us will slip through the cracks and make it in, just have hope.

My advice for those of you who still don't have interviews:

If you have the good fortune of being able to meet with the admissions directors at schools you've applied to, or even emailing them to talk about your application status, I would go ahead and do so. That helped a couple of my friends last year a tons, in getting in.

Furthermore, I would send updates on your profiles if you've done anything new, and they allow for updates. I read of people doing such, from here on SDN, and have heard of others at my school doing such. So I'd go ahead and try send updates.

I'm rooting for you too. Have you tried talking with admissions directors??? Maybe that might help. It seems with 13 MD schools and 1 DO school, that one of the 14 medical schools in NY would give you an interview. So I would try to talk with schools about your situation and see what is holding you back. Sometimes it helps a great deal.

ohhh it gets sadder and sadder each day passes and my e-mail box fills with only spam and school e-mails. ohhh so sad. The best of luck to us all. Guju, I tried the e-mail the dean of admissions, and they said that my file was still under review. Two people look at it initally, if they disagree on your status, it moves to committee - so I guess thats where I am.

Thanks for the thought. I am contemplating joining the dark side to get interviews and acceptance. At this point, eternal torture and damnation sounds sweet next to waiting around a few more months.

I don't remember exactly, but I don't think I got most of my interviews until November - even December for some. I know my Wake interview was January 27th, and here I am about to graduate. Don't lose faith!

I barely remember, but I think my MCAT was PS11, V11, BS 9...

I'm pretty sure that all he means is that there's a fighting chance until interviews are over. Meaning, if it is March or April and you still haven't gotten interviews, then you know you are going to be a reapplicant for sure.

But be patient and keep updating schools with anything new you do in the meanwhile. Don't lose hope just yet.

Sounds like a couple of friends of mine from last year. Quite a few of my friends, now MS I's, got earliest interviews in December or January. Some had the very last interview but were high on the waitlist where come the drop date for multiple acceptances, they were bound to get an acceptance. And by very last interview date, I mean March some time.

So all of you all hang in there.

And if things don't work out this year, then talk to admissions directors and find out how you can improve your status and assess work accordingly. Do whatever you can to improve in weak areas and what not.

AND, all of this was as a REAPPLICANT (I got rejected from my school the previous year right off the bat!). Now that doesn't mean I didn't have a few big things happen during that year that significantly helped my application, but whatever your circumstances, there is always hope. Just keep the faith.
