The only way I'll leave this thread is if they pry the keyboard from my cold, dead hands or....I get an interview, whichever comes first.

i don't know if you should write a letter of intent right now. that's usually for people who have already interviewed there and have not heard anything for a while, or who got waitlisted.

i guess you could write a letter of "interest" to add to your file, but don't know if that would do much? i have no idea.

yesterday i went to this premed seminar kaplan was holding for free. the admissions people from emory and morehouse were there... the emory representative said that sometimes people "just fall through the cracks" in terms of their files being overlooked until it's too late! 😱 😱 😱
what a scary thought.

i kind of feel like that's what is happening to me at ALL the schools i applied to.

Okay, I am not going to be able to sleep tonight. "Fall through the cracks"...crap on a crutch man, these are people's lives we are talking about here. A penny falls through a crack in a pocket, a sock falls though a crack during laundry but people falling through the cracks! Did they even say whether these people were overlooked based on when they were completed? I mean I gave in my stuff by late July to early August and was complete at most schools by that time. Maybe, it was too early and they just forgot about me, 'cause I was early. The thought boggles the mind. It's boggling my mind right now.

I don't know what's going on man, but as of this moment I am on a mission to actively annoy the hell out of every admissions people to pull out my file to make sure my stuff didn't fall behind some cabinet or something.

It's not a bad idea. I've been pretty proactive. I haven't contacted any admissions offices more than twice in a week or more than about 5 times total, but I haven't been shy about calling, either, and I've had good results. Be super courteous and confident and you'll be great!

Anyone else feel like the ugly person not invited to the prom? I think the schools that required me to send pics are taking longer because they really want to hold on 'till the bitter end to see if they have fulfilled their quota for people who like a cross between a muppet, a broom and a wombat for the entering year. I knew I should have put vaseline on the camera lens.

Damn, Rayhan that's funny. I remember all the anxiety about taking that damn photograph. Now when I see it, I keep saying "if only the room were a little darker..."

i miss the hopeful eager attitude i had when i first submitted my amcas and took photos for my secondaries.
where art thou hope, where art thou eagerness.

so hope and eagerness has come back(hopefully it's not just a short spark)!
came home from work to find an interview invite in my mailbox. 🙂
one thing of concern though, was that the envelope was like OPEN. imagine if the letter had fallen out and i was instead left to agonize over a possible rejection! they must replace the person who is licking the envelopes because obviously in this later stage of the interview season their tongue has gone dry and they can no longer do their job as required.

thanks to all of you guys in this thread for your support and encouragement!
out of respect to rayhan, i will not scream and yell in capital letters jumping up and down or anything...

I got a letter ready today, it's not a letter of interest per se but it's more of a personal experience type letter to let the adcoms know where I am coming from. You know, let them know a little bit more about the humble beginnings and obstacles that my family and I have faced. But I am thinking it's way too personal and may be irrelevant to the applicaion process. Any volunteer readers (it's not too long)?

I would be happy to read it as well. PM me and I'll give you my suggestions.

What does one put in a letter to the adcoms at this point? I mean, with no interviews do they even look at additional correspondence from us?

Hey this post is for rayhan and others out there still hoping.... I posted this in another thread but I thought I'd put it in here just to give ya'll some hope.. I applied last year and didn't get my first interview invite till late December, early January.. I ended up getting 7 invites out of 14 schools... I went on 6 (w/drew from one) and got waitlisted at 4, into 2 right away and then got into one school off the waitlist in May... I got into my first choice which happened to be a non rolling school and so I withdrew from all the waitlists.. anyhow, the point to my convoluted story telling is that just because its early November doesn't mean you're not getting into med school if you haven't interviewed yet.. keep the faith people!

P.S. (This is my bf's username, not mine... so I am not MSTP...)

If you'd like to see my MDApps, let me know and I'll post it..

Hope this cheers you up a little! :luck:

Were you an August MCAT person? Because that may explain why you got later interviews. The April MCAT people have more or less been reviewed at every school I would think.

If you are indeed an April MCATer and you applied early, then yes, you do give us hope!!! 😀

Alright I did apply late.. I was an August MCATer but it was the August the year before.. I just happened to submit my AMCAs OCt 15th... and then secondaries after that ... however, my main point was that you can still interview "way late" and get into med school... (I ended up getting invites at BU, Dartmouth, RWJ, NYU, UPenn, Gtown, and Albert Einstein)...

What ore the chances of still getting an interview if my secondaries were completed in August?

I say, if you haven't gotten a rejection, you still have a chance. I think DaMota was complete around that time too, and he just started getting interviews a week and a half ago.

i feel like with the holiday season the adcoms are going to get lazy to be reviewing apps.

A lot of adcoms don't interview during the holiday break. At least, USF is that way. So I think you are right in saying activity will slowly dwindle down for a short time frame. But then it picks up full swing in January again.

Imagine this in Rod Roddy's voice (bless his soul):
Rod Roddy: DaMota and Bepony come on down. You have been selected to read a personal essay from Rayhan.
Audience: oooooh
Rod: The essay features three to four paragraph, rife with grammatical errors and some spelling errors that may have escaped the spellcheck from microsoft word. And that's not all, as a bonus you also get a cheap laugh and spam in a can. A total packacge that is valued at $1 but as a last ditch effort, priceless.

Dude you are hilarious..... at least be reassured that once you get an interview, you will rock it because you most definitely have personality... I'm a student interviewer at my school and if you're like this in person, I'm sure I'd rate you high... 😀 👍

rayhan, i am sincerely praying for your success in this cycle.
also, for the letter, it may be a good idea to write more about what you've been doing since you submitted amcas, like that great internship you have with a physician you weren't able to include there, and also any other classes or activities you might have been invoved in. and write specifically about the school you send the letter to, and write how much you are interested in going to their school.

anyways, i hear that helps. as of now i only have one interview also. i am about to start a couple of hospital and volunteering activities and have registered for a couple of extra classes in the spring, so i plan on sending an update type of letter to some schools as soon as i have some more stuff to write about.

Javert (or javert's girlfriend) and Bubbleyum thanks for the support. I am a member of this thread for another day.

Come on schools, just thrown me a bone. I really want to dress up in clothes I hate to wear, travel to different states, bitch about the sucky airfares available, meet enough nervous and sweat-producing students to manufacture my own brand of energy drinks, interview with interviewers who may be aptly titled "the devil's concubine", feel unsure about my performance during the flight back, stress over the results and stalk my mailman for med school letters and soil myself if I receive a rejection, a waitlist or a large acceptance....as you can see, no matter the outcome, clothes will be soiled.

hahah you are awesome. and my hero. i'm still here to keep ya company ray. 😉

Rayhan,
I was coming back from my run this morning and I thought of something truly pathetic about me that may make you laugh. The first part of this story is the non-pathetic part, just in case you are unclear.

So, I carry a diary around with me everywhere so I can write down interesting things I see, ideas for lecture topics for my classes, ideas for presentation topics for O Chem classes, etc.

Anyway, because I didn't want to confuse my "everyday thoughts" with ALL the med school interview thoughts I was SURELY going to have, I purchased another diary JUST FOR ALL MY INTERVIEWS, so I could write down facts about the school, likes/dislikes, interview questions, etc.

That book has three sentences written in it.

Bump.

No word from any school for me yet.

How's it going with the rest of you?

Hoberto, nothing here either. Bugged a few schools, namely MCW and Vermont. MCW is parapharasing their e-mail and Vermont says expect a letter in a week or two but then disavowed knowledge of the mode of notification. Meh...I have been stricken with apathy at this point for most of the time but once a day, I break out in cold sweat and worry.
