Anyone go through the EK 1001 bio and find that the questions require a ridiculous amount of background knowledge? If people think EK Bio is too light on information, I feel like the 1001 questions goes to the other extreme? Anyone else notice this?

I get the exact opposite. EK Bio is just right in terms of information, it's also pretty difficult. I find 1001 series really easy. A lot of the answers can be found within the passages itself. I usually get about 85-90% of the questions right when I am doing chunks of 1001 passages.

Try reading the passage carefully. There are lots of information that can be gleaned from them.

I had a similar experience to BlueElmo. I thought the EK Bio had a solid amount of information and the EK 1001 Bio was too easy. That doesn't mean I didn't think the EK 1001 Bio wasn't good, I thought it was great practice. Probably the best Bio practice.

I think the bio is the best of the series. Good question difficulty and good passages. The physics and chem (physical and orgo) are very detail based but it's content review and not meant to be a reflection of the MCAT exam questions.

how far have you gotten with the problems? It begins to get repetitive and it helps you to retain the information. Bio started as my weakest area and ended up as my best (EK 1001 was basically all I used for bio). Don't get discouraged, just keep on practicing.

Yea, I think I freaked out by the first 2 chapters which require significantly more knowledge than what's in the EK Biology Content Review book.

anyone notice how the questions in the 1001 bio consist of two sentences, the first of which is almost NEVER relevant? e.g.:

A retrovirus has a protein capsid surrounding a nucleosome core and bounded by a glycoprotein envelope. Where is rRNA made?
A. Golgi Apparatus
B. Phospholipid Bilayer
C. Nucleolus
D. From your mother's toe jam

Hey guys, how many passages do you guys recommend doing before stopping to check your answers? I'd like to check answers after doing each passage (that way I'd still be familiar with the passage and wouldn't have to go back to understand why I got something wrong) but I'd also like to build up some stamina and do many passages at a time. What would you recommend?
