Anyone going to Boston U this fall?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You guys can go ahead and chalk me up as a future BU student. Deposits have been made.

Im also going to be doing excel. Ive been out of school for a while, so I need something to ease me back into the mix.

As for housing, Im very particular about living conditions. I dont like old looking buildings. I like new, modern stuff. Therefore, Im thinking of living a little further away from campus. Not exactly sure where, but I think I will be making a trip up in April to check out the scene and search for some decent apartments.

ATX04UT, Im from Houston. See you in beantown...Hook em.

Dr. Bad Vibes = long time B.U. hater , he's just angry that he needs a police escort to go home from school (Temple is in the ggghheettoo)

I'm a current student and there really doenst seem to be a problems with our patient pool, we actually received the highest amount of gov money to treat poor patients then any other Boston-area dental school.

B.U. is expensive as heck, so watch your wallet. Excel is a great way to meet future students, but your going to do that when you get here anyways, so save your money.

As far as housing, try to stay near the school (South End) or somewhere accessible by the Silver line, #8 or CT1 bus.

Good luck!

How far away is BU Dental from the T? As I will probably be living somewhere in boston and using this as my transportation to and from the school.

Hey all-

Yeah I totally need help and advice on where to live in Boston????? HELP HELP! I talked to someone from BU and I was told that after the class is full, there will be a packet that they will mail us with everyone's contact info. And I heard for those attending the excel program...it is a good way of meeting people to room with. I will be attending the excel, and any advice would totally be appreciated as to my living arrangements and anything else I may need to know regarding BU and DMD school!

I am excited to meet you guys when we get to Bean Town!

For anyone currently in Boston...

Whats a decent price for a one bedroom apartment? Two bedroom?

Im not too familiar with pricing for real estate in that area, so any info would be helpful.

I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT MY HOUSING SITUATION IS GOING TO BE AT BU AS IM SURE MANY OF YOU ARE. I am looking to save money by having a roommate but do not have any prospects.

If you are in this postion. I WOULD SUGGEST PUTTING UP A POST ON BU'S ROOMMATE MATCHING WEBSITE.. THE EARLIER THE BETTER!!!
THIS IS THE WEBSITE:
http://www.bumc.bu.edu/Dept/Content.aspx?DepartmentID=375&PageID=6765

EMAIL [email protected] OR CALL (617) 638-5125 TO RECEIVE TEMPORARY USERNAME AND PASSWORD TO POST YOUR PROFILE.

I THINK THIS WILL BE A GREAT WAY TO FIND ROOMMATES AS YOU CAN TYPE A SHORT SUMMARY ABOUT YOURSELF AND EXPECTATIONS OF A ROOMMATE. YOU CAN ALSO SELECT WHAT AREAS YOU WOULD LIKE TO LIVE IN AND WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND. I SUBMITTED A POST BUT SO FAR THERE ARENT SO MANY PEOPLE TO CHOOSE FROM SO START POSTING!!!

Just want to ask a small question,
I called them and got my new BU interview appointment on April 12, and just found it is Tuesday. I thought they will only arrange interviews on Monday or Friday?
I am too embarrassed to call them again.
Thanks

Good advice. Try and get an earlier date, if possible. My initial interview was scheduled for Feb. or something and I was able to change it to Dec. 3rd. That could have been the difference between me getting accepted or rejected.

The closest T line to B.U. is the silverline (which is a bus line) and it takes you all around (passes thru Boston Common).

As far as the Metro is concerned, the Mass Ave stop on the orange line is the closest to the school (about 1/2 mile away, not too bad of a walk).

The best neighborhood to live in (especially during your 1st and 2nd years) is the South End, where the school is. Its a bit high priced, but you can save yourself "much dinero" if you get roomates. There are other neighborhoods, which are nicer and are more convenient (like Brookline, near Fenway, etc), but the commute (even though public transportation in Boston is the best I seem in the U.S.) is hell.

Harrison Court is also really nice, but pricey.

Oh yeah, leave your car at home if you plan on living in the city, parking is hell.

The way I found my place was by sending e-mails to everyone on the Housing list asking if anyone needed roomates. This guy email me back and got me in touch with current roomates. I think I lucked out, since I really couldnt afford to fly up here and spend a week looking for a place while staying in a hotel or something..

I am seriously considering attending BU for the fall. My only question is about the APEX program at BU? Is it worth it? Maybe someone who has done it before could give their opinion? Thanks a lot.

Hey,

I will most likely be attending BU this fall as well.
I e-mailed [email protected] for my temporary password on Thurs, but still haven't received it yet. How long does it usually take?
Should I be e-mailing [email protected] instead? I just sent a msg to the link on their website but maybe I would get a faster response if I called or something.....

Hey,

I'm a 1st year dental student at BU. I just joined the SDN and read all the questions you had about BU. First of all, congratulations on getting accepted to BU. Secondly, I did do the Excel program last summer. It's was a good experience. You'll get to meet some of your teachers and how they teach and how they test because you will be attending classes and taking tests. But you don't have to take the test or go to class, it is just for your benefit. Also you'll be getting a chance to meet other people in your classmates and do things around Boston before school really starts. About 25-30 of my classmates did Excel. Our class president will be up there for APEX so he'll be helping out with Excel too. If you guys have any more questions just ask. I'll try to check on the forum as much as I can while I am procastinating studying.
