Anyone hear about interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
ubulu,

more suggestions for your interviews. since you only got the 1 interview so far you need to tailor yourself to the program as much as possible. for example, if the program is a clinical program and you are interested in basic research, don't keep talking about the basic research you want to do, talk about how you truly want an amazing clinical experience....at the same time don't say the opposite of your CV and application, just lean towards what they are looking for. good luck

NYU will be sending out acceptances , rejections soon.
anyone knows if Mayo and Cleveland clinic sent any rejections ???

What are the dates of the UCSD interview?

Regarding Mayo and Cleveland: Don't know much about Mayo, but I know that Cleveland has already starting interviewing people, so I doubt any more acceptances will be sent out....

I really think its rude for programs NOT to send out some type of notification regarding ones application.

Has anyone heard from south florida? I've yet to get a single interview!

Have you guys noticed that in general the west coast programs are taking a lot longer than the east coast programs to get back to you??? Some places are just starting to review the applications!

Cornell today...

I still haven't heard from columbia. I'm not sure why they are keeping me on this waitlist. Are they thinking a spot might open? Who is going to turn down a Columbia interview anyway?

IM person,
It's interesting how you were asking about which medicine programs in NYC require overnight call in Nov/Dec 2006. Did you decide to skip over medicine residency and just apply for the cardiology match? I'm sure Cornell gave you an interview, except it was for their "rectal disempaction" specialist.

I'm a third year resident in NYC and have done some work with ACGME and residency education, specifically in New York. I posted that quote to get more information about NYC residency programs as the residency interview season was starting.

Yep. I interviewed 4 years ago and there were at least 5 programs whom I never heard from after sending my application.

ditto...although 95% of programs will send you a rejection email in May after they have finished interviewing. CC rejected me in April or May. That being said, I did get interview offers last April to interview in May. At one of the programs they offered me their 5th and last day (the secretary told me that little tidbit when I got there).

This July I will be starting at a program that offered me an interview in Jan.

This entire interview process seems a bit luck-dependent to me. Curiously, I'm wondering if it actually makes a difference whether your PD calls the program and requests that they interview you. The program may grant an interview as a favor to the PD, but if they already don't want you from the start, are you not wasting your time and money on a program that has already had a negative view of you from the start, i.e. they didn't want to interview you?

Anyone know much about the program at the UCSD?

In regards the PD call - not useful for any of the top / middle ranked programs. However, some of the small community programs do appreciate that call. If fact, cardiology PD specifically ask not to be called by your internal medicine PD.

Hello,
Has anyone heard from Cedars-Sinai, Wake Forest, or Thomas Jefferson (the cardiology program not the president)?

Last year one program had a day for what they called political interviews. They were not going to take the people they just needed to give them an interview to not piss off the person who called them.

I heard that Cedars Sinai will start giving out interviews in mid March! Stay tuned.

does anyone know the reputation of Univ of Wisconsin?

It is hard for me to believe that anything in this world is non political, which includes selection process into fellowship programs.
A friend of mine went to his medicine chair, a big shot guy in GI and asked his advice /criteria to get in to GI programs.
The answer from Chair, what determines their selection process after interviewing was.
  • DO I know you?
  • Does my friend know you?
  • Are you an apple among all the oranges?
However one has to generate an interview first to reach this stage.
About PD calling for you. I think that if doesn’t help, it certainly won’t hurt either.

Stanford sent out interview offers today. Cedars-Sinai said they will send out offers at the end of this week.

Jeff in Philly sent out invites today..

Heard from Stanford and UCSD today.

Has anyone heard from Georgetown/Washington Hospital Center
-CC

Heard from them middle of February. Don't think they have any more interview slots available as the day I called I was given the option for one day only.

University of Iowa sent me a rejection today; not sure if they are sending out invites already.

Heard from Cedars-Sinai today.

Also, already heard from UCLA, NW, UCSF, Kaiser, USC, UChicago, Rush, Stanford, Columbia, Mt. Sinai...most of these have been commented on already.

Got an invitation for an interview a few days ago.. whenever i posted the note

Yep, got one today also. They said that they will send invitations/rejections this week mainly and possible for a few days next week also

Bunch of people heard from Cedars, I recall someone hearing from Scripps but last year they only interviewed 10 people, so who knows?, One report of hearing from Cornell, and heard about rejections from Univ. of Arizona in January.

Got an interview today at Tufts... still no news from Einstein (Bronx), Cornell, St Lukes, Temple in Philly

Kansas baby---here we come- inteview
Denial from Iowa

You should call the program. The coordinator called me last week and asked why I haven't responded to their emails. Apparently, some of the emails got lost in cyberspace.

Has more than 1 person heard from Cornell (not that I am expecting anything, but still)???

What program are you talking about?

Never mind...just got the rejection today!

Has anyone applied to and heard from Wakeforest ? Scripps ?

I think interview invites are over....would be very suprised to hear about any more acceptances.

I'm wait listed at a few west coast programs. Just waiting for the MD/PhDs and Chief Residents to cancel their interviews. They can't go on all of their interviews, and why would they consider anything except MGH, Brigham, Hopkins, UCSF, etc. All kidding aside, there is still a chance for maybe 1 or 2 more if things go well. Good luck to all. I'm tired of this process, as I am sure all of you are as well.

Looks like things quieted down. Did people ultimately hear from scripps and cornell??

I think Cornell sent out their invites about a month ago. For Scripps, I haven't heard anything and no one I know who applied has either, but last year they interviewed very few people since they usually take internally.
