Anyone hear from Yeshiva??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've heard via email and phone.

I heard from the combined program (acceptance) on Monday.
I know someone who heard from the psy.d. clinical program last week.

good luck to all

I heard from Yeshiva's PhD clinical health, that I was accepted, by email last week and then by letter a few days later.

i was accepted by mail to yeshiva's psyd program. anyone have info about housing?

i have not heard back from them yet. im a bit worried. has anyone been rejected yet?

i havent heard anything either yet. It seems like they sent acceptances by mail, email or phone, which is a little weird. but its also rolling admissions so who knows?

i have not heard back from them yet. im a bit worried. has anyone been rejected yet?

so i emailed dr givner for the psyd program to see what my status was and he told me ive been waitlisted which is essentially a rejection since they wont know anything until april 15th. 🙁

Any updates? Anyone else hear acceptance or rejections? ANyone been waitlisted? Still haven't heard a thing... slowly....going....crazy.....

Has anyone accepted their offer for the combined program?

Also, hang in there everyone that is waitlisted--there are people who are waiting for other offers and haven't told the school either way, and there are people that I read about on other threads that were accepted that have declined the offer, but may have not sent in their forms yet.

I accepted to their combined program a few days ago.

They accepted you to their combined program, or you accepted their offer? Sorry, I trying my best to keep track, as I am on the waitlist!

how do u know u are on the waitlist. i havent heard from them yet and when i called they said they would let us know by the end of this week.

I called out of desperation! I wish they coulc be a littl ebetter about contacting us... When did you call? Maybe you called before I did, and they hadn't finalized yet?

This is torture, isn't it?

i called a couple of days ago. im pretty sure we're waitlisted or rejected as many others have already gotten offers. sucks...oh well

Sukurux,

What did they actually tell you when you called?

Why are people getting so worked up about being accepted to Yeshiva? Is it really such an impressive program?

I am curious to hear people's thoughts on the program. My experience there (mostly with the interview) was not a good one.

While we definitely all seem to like the program, I think we're all frustrated, more than anything.... Yeshiva is playing hard to get! They haven't been in contact with many applicants, and those who have spoken to them have gotten mixed messages, making the anticipation toture! 😱

Yeshiva is the only place I applied. It's the only place i want to go. It's 8 minutes from my apartment, which I own, and will not sell to relocate to some "top-ranked" program as per US News Report. And yeah, they're dicking people around a bit by not informing anyone of any status. How hard is it to call a few dozen applicants? Acceptance to the program will determine the next 5 years of my life, the rest of my life if you think about it. I have a moderate level of anxiety to begin with. I just want to know. I'm sure that's not a stretch to understand, right? Anyone on this board actually go to Yeshiva who could clue me in as to what the hell they're thinking?

"Just because it is important to you, doesn't mean it is important to me" [them]

I use to have this posted in my office. It sounds harsh, but for many of the people involved, it is just their job, and unfortunately to us...it is a BIG decision in our lives.

has anyone actually gotten a rejection? or do you think were ALL on the waiting list?

So picture this:

I Interveiwed at the Clinical PsyD over a month ago. Yesterday I Get an envelope in the mail from Ferkauf, open it up, and right away a card falls out to mail back saying whether i "Accept" or "Reject" the offer. So I am naturally very excited. I start reading the letter:

"Dear _______: I am happy to inform you that you have been accepted for admission to the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology for the semester commencing Fall 2007 as a regular full-time student."

At this point I begin dialing my my parents to tell them the good news. But then I continue reading:

"Your admission is in a course of study leading to the Masters of Arts program in Mental Health Counseling."

😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡

I called up, and they said there is no waitlist yet - they don't make one till April 15th, after they hear back from everyone they initially accepted! Why can't they be like every other program - accept some, waitlist some, reject some; not accept some and funnel everyone else into your Masters program! And they said i have to accept the MA offer BEFORE april 15th or I would lose my MA slot - so i would have to give that up if i even wanted to find out if i got on the psyd waitlist!!!!!

thats weird. because i emailed dr givner regarding my status and he told me i was on the waitlist for the psyd program.

i dont get it?

i think theyre telling some ppl one thing and others another?

There may be a waitlist for one program (psy.d) and not for another (combined).

Or, maybe he just considers not hearing until April 15th being on the "waitlist." And, perhaps everyone that has not been rejected is ranked on this list.

This is all just a guess.

im talking about the combined program. not the regular psyd. im on the waitlist, or whatever you wanna call it. i wish we could know where we stand on the list

Freudfiend,

Congrats on at least getting SOMETHING in the mail. I'd be pretty pissed myself though. You should scrawl a note in red ink on the card that says, "If I wanted to be in your crappy masters program I'd have applied for it." I still want to go there more than anything, but that is really screwed up. What is wrong with this place??

Just thought I would add my two cents for everyone else who has interviewed for the Clinical PsyD at Yeshiva. I interviewed on March 8th and have not received anything. I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge of how many students they are accepting this year vs how many were interviewed?

On a different note:
Did anyone get a tour? If so, would anyone care to elaborate on their experience for those of us who were not so fortunate?

I've never been so involved/interested in my mail before...

im assuming youre talking about the regular psyd and not the combined program. I applied to the combined program and i know they interviewed 100 and accept about 20. For those that applied to the combined program, we were given a tour and the chance to speak to students about the program. I had a VERY good impression after my interview, I have a feeling those for the regular psyd were not so impressed.

I applied to the regular Clinical PsyD.

Regarding my impression, I don't believe that given the volume of students and faculty that you can make a snap judgement of the program in a one-hour group interview. The vast majority of my information about the program was gleaned by ambushing random students I found in the building and asking their impressions. (Thanks, Yeshiva first-years!)

Good luck in the combined program!

PsyMoose,
I interviewed on March 8th too. Did you go at 11am?

Psydplease,
Thanks for the info. I wonder if those numbers are similar to the clinical program's acceptance rates?

I interviewed at 10 am and may have spoke to you as I chatted with a few people who were just about to run the 11 am gauntlet, while I looked about for students to interrogate.

So I'm taking it that no one on the board received a flat-out rejection?

nope...and its killing me. wuts the email for Givner? I will try to call tomorrow and see what they say. i have a feeling we've all been rejected!!!

It sounds like fruedfiend got a rejection. I think everyone given an interview who is rejected is offered a spot in the MA in mental health program. BTW - I don't know how useful this MA really is. I'm thinking it is a cheap consolation prize.

Also...
Does Ferkauf really have that great a rep that everyone is getting so worked up over it?

I hear what you're saying. It's not about ferkauf's rep, though. Any anticipatory period kills me, I just like instant gratification. And getting an MA when you're going the clinical route seems pointless...especially given that you get an MA after 2 years at Ferkauf's PsyD program. I'm calling today, too. This is ridiculous. If I'm willing to give them $135,000 of tuition they can give me an f'ing answer. And I bet the "cheap consolation prize" would still cost about 60 grand, lol...

i just called them this morning and they said i didn't get accepted. theres no wait list yet and they said i should call on tuesday. she told me off the mark that if i was accepted to another great program i should just take that offer. and thats exactly what i will do. i only wanted to go to yeshiva due to its location anyway. Massachusetts here i come 🙂

sukurux,

Did you call the admissions #? 718-430-3820?
I've been trying but keep getting voicemail...

yes, thats who i called.

I am so f'ing fed up. I called all afternoon and kept getting voicemail. Doesn't seem like anyone wants to pick up the phone. Sukurux, sorry you were rejected. I have a feeling I'm in the same boat but since I can't get through on the damn telephone I guess I'll have to wait too...

Just to put this out there-
At the Ferkauf interview - did anyone meet with non-first year students? I found it a little suspicious that I only met with first years. I wonder if they are trying to hide something...

I met with second years at my interview. I also personally know people who have graduated from this program and who are in their final years there. I don't think there is a conspiracy theory going on here.

i wrote a letter today to dr. mcguinn asking about where i was on the waitlist and this was her reply:

"I am very pleased to hear of your interest and wanted to let you know
that you are at the top of our waitlist."

she didn't specify when i would hear back from her but i was wondering if i should just wait it out until april 15th or just accept the offer to mspp?

IF you don't mind me asking, are you waitlisted for the Clinical PsyD or the School-Clinical Child PsyD? I called and spoke to them last week and they responded similarly to me. This is so frustrating!

clinical psyd...i dunno wut to do at this point. should i just wait or accept the offer to the other school? is financial aid going to be gone if i wait any longer?

For what it's worth, I called on Monday to ask my status. I spoke with someone in admissions, and they told me, after a few minutes on hold, that my "file was still with the admissions committee." I only interviewed March 8th, but I'm wondering if that's BS and I'm waitlisted or if they're actually still deciding. It's getting kind of close to deadline time so I don't know...

has anyone actually gotten a rejection? or do you think were ALL on the waiting list?

I heard from them yesterday afternoon with an acceptance via phone to the clinical health program. To answer your question, I do think we were ALL on that waitlist. I'm assuming that as rejections to their offer trickle in, they'll slowly but surely, pull from the waitlist. I believe that's what happened in my case as it seems awfully late to have received an offer. Don't you think?
At any rate, there's some consolation in it all. Now THEY'LL have to wait until I make up MY mind. 🙄 j/k

PS With the way YU operated thus far, I'm not giving up my other slots until I see something in writing! LOL

I don't blame you, lol. They sure are a disorganized bunch. Who the hell knows how late they'll keep making offers.. The website says April 1st, but I'm guessing they'll go past that.
