I'm a pre-pharm who has currently applied to pharmacy school. however, ive been doing a little researching of the job market potential for graduating pharmacists etc. anyway, as naive as this may sound (please educate me here), one of my dream jobs is to work for the FDA (and do regulation work). so, ive done a little searching and found out about the FDA pharmacy student experiential program, where you apply P3 and do a rotation at the FDA dept in your final year of pharmacy school. can anyone give me their opinion about it? is this something new? what are your chances of getting a job with the FDA (by choosing this rotation)? just need to know so i have this in the back of my mind while im going through pharmacy school.

also, ive been browsing for FDA jobs for pharmacists, but i can't seem to find anything (except pharmacologists, which seems to be a versatile title for biologists, chemists, pharmacists)...do pharmacists actually work in the FDA as pharmacists?? haha sounds like a stupid question, but it isnt exactly phrased that way.

thanks for all responses i get.

FDA site full of information: LINK

To answer your questions - Pharmacists working for the FDA are for the most part members of the Public Health Services Corps (PHS). Here is a nice little article that breaks down what the PHS does - including involvement with the FDA: LINK

The FDA experiential program is unpaid, 'nuff said.
I wasn't aware that you had to be done with P3 to do it.

There are many other options for internships that ARE paid. And I think maybe you could do FDA through the COSTEP program (USPHS) AND get paid, depending on whether they need you there or not.

And yes, most FDA employees are members of the PHS. That's a bit scary for me, but some people actually like that.
