hey guys, i've already submitted my AADSAS on june 2nd, and its already been sent out to the schools. i submitted to 8 total; NOVA, UF, UMB, howard, UMDNJ, SUNY @ buffalo, case, and temple. my question is this:

i've already interviewed at UF on wed. i didnt feel too good about the interview and am pretty sure that i will not get accepted. and i also now regret applying to howard, because i'm pretty sure that i wont get accepted cuz i'm not african american. i've also heard its a sh*tty school.

so, now i'm considering applying to more schools. first off, if i apply to more schools, would it still take 4-8 weeks to process, or will AADSAS submit my application right away cuz they already processed it??

and now, the more important question, which schools would u guys recommend i apply too?? my stats are:

DAT: 21 AA 20 TS 15 PAT
3.6 overall, 3.55 science, and 3.45 BCP

thanks guys, i was planning on submitting probably to 2-3 more schools. and i dont want to apply to NYU or BU, cuz i dont want to pay out of the nose in tution and living expenses. thanks guys, sorry soo long.

Your fault for not researching schools.

But to answer your question, AADSAS won't speed things up for you necessarily just because your application has already been sent out. It shouldn't take too long, but I'd still expect it to take 4 weeks or so.

And finally, with grades and DAT scores such as yours, you really ought to have no problem getting into several schools. If you do apply to more schools than research them carefully and don't just do it to fling money out the window. Both your GPA and DAT scores are above average, so if you have any type of personality at all you shouldn't have much of a problem getting admitted.

What is your state of residence and how did you choose your initial group of schools that you applied to?

hey thanks for the reply gavin, i live in FL, and i pretty much chose schools based on geographical convience more than anything else, and also on tuition rates. i really dont want to move out west, so all the schools i applied too pretty much are on the east coast. thanks

Just guessing but it sounds like you might not have done your research on your first interview also. There are more than enough resources at this website to give you a general idea of what to expect for each school when it comes time to do interviews so use it to your advantage. On another note, I've heard on several occasions where an applicant goes in for an interview and is 100% certain that they messed their interview up only to recieve an acceptence in December so I wouldn't be so certain unless you told the interviewer to eff themselves.

May I know if you are NY resident? If not, your chance to get into Buffalo is slim.
Be prepare for UMB interview. UMDNJ is a state sch also. Not sure about your PAT, some sch may weight that heavier than others. With your stats, you should be confident about ur pick.

Hey Omar,

Have you gotten anymore interview invites? If you have a lot of other interviews, you have a really good chance of getting in if you practice and perfect your interview skills. You could always wait another month and see how many interview invites you get before deciding to submit an application to other schools. You do have good stats and should have no trouble getting into at least a couple of the schools on your list based on stats alone.

If applying to one or two more schools would give you piece of mind, then try applying to just one more. Remember that the whole process of dental school applications is really stressful and probably causes anyone to doubt him/herself at one time or another. Just use this energy to practice your interview skills. Try having friends and relatives ask you potential questions until you feel comfortable with your answers and speak from the heart. I had a really terrible first interview myself (big fat REJECTION from my state school with good stats), but I nailed three interviews after that with quite a lot of practice. And ended up at a much better place. Good luck to you and perhaps I'll see you in a year.

dont count UF out yet... they give many ppl a hard time at the interview and then you will be one of the first admitted. dont sweat it... u have good enough stats to get in. I have a really good friend at Howard that is not AA (is white) and he says it is a pretty good school. You cant judge a school b/c of stereotypes. In fact my friend says that most of the class is indian and asian. u will prob get into all of the programs u applied to... dont sweat it. Just remember every dental school has problems ... even the ones with good names. good luck. 😎

but UF may frown on that 15 PAT.... may have to take it over... good luck.

hey guys, thanks everybody for the replies. first off, UF never mentioned my 15 PAT. i dont know if thats a good thing or bad thing.

to jessica, i got a 2nd interview on aug. 20 at case.

and no, i'm not an NY resident, but from what SUNY told me, is that they accept a good amount of out-of-staters.

thanks everybody, i'm probably going to hold off on applying to more schools, and see what happens. thanks everybody

yup, screw Howard, took my hard earned money and never send a reply 😡

With your stats, u shouldn't have any problems getting accepted 👍
You'll get in Nova, Pitt... It's purely a number game. just make sure practicing interviews, doing some researches about the school that u r interested in. Ask students from Nova for inputs. Don't worry too much about UF, if you got an interview this early then u'r a good applicant, they want u there!

Good luck!

Congrats on your Case interview. I am sure you have a great shot there if the interview goes well.

Omar:

Yep, you definitely have a very good shot at getting into my school (SUNY at Buffalo) on the strength of your GPA. My school takes approx. 15-20 out-of-staters a year for a class of 75-90 students.

Now the $64M question: are you sure you want to give up that nice Florida weather for Lake Effect Snow?

hey Dr. Tom, thanks for the reply. ha i guess i wouldnt mind for only 4 years. i used to live in North Dakota, so i acutally kinda miss the snow and the cold weather (ha i know i'm crazy) and their tuition is pretty darn cheap and i heard buffalo is a nice city to live in. thanks

omar

Yep, if you attend the dental school at Buffalo, you will most likely live in Amherst (just east of Buffalo city limits). Amherst is currently the safest city in the United States according to crime statistics.

Tuition is cheap, but bear in mind during your freshman year you have to pay out-of-state tuition... That would bring your total bill to around $160,000 for four years.

Anyway, good luck whichever school you choose!

HTH!
