Anyone still in college?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'd have to say that an overwhelming majority of the people posting in this particular forum are all undergraduates exchanging ideas during their med school application processes.

I just started senior year and waiting for my August MCAT scores after having taken the test in April and doing bad. Since its late in the application cycle now, I'll have to wait until next June to apply. Assuming my August scores are good (knock on wood), I'll have to spend the year after I graduate doing interviews and the works, and maybe will have some time to "relax," whatever that means. I hope to start med school in the summer/fall of 2004.

yeah limit, but most are seniors who are talking about how they cant wait to get their mcat scores or talking about this or that.

for us undergrads that are fresh, soph, maybe juniors.. we'd like to know about pre-mcat stuff, i.e. info and experiences on the pre-req classes, etc.

It seems that most *are* sophs, jrs, srs.I always wondered if I
was the only person not in my sr. year already.Good to know I am in such good company 😉

I come from a family where none of my parents graduated college.

Same here. My mom and dad never graduated college. They both have SOME college, but I'm talking a few courses here. It was basically a life circumstance thing. Anyways, they've made it their life goal to make sure I go as high as I can. They don't want me in the same position as them. I'll be the first dr. on both sides of the family.actually, I think the highest level of education was a masters by my aunt(at the age of nearly 50), and a masters by my great uncle. It took him a long time as well. I have a lot of people watching me and hoping I do well. So here it goes! Med school(I hope) in 2006!! *I'm a freshmen majoring in psychology/chemistry.*

Yeah I'll be the first doctor on both sides in I get in as well.

I got a letter from University of Chicago last night.. I doubt I'd ever get in there, but who knows..

Well anytime you want to chat about anything, drop me an email.

I will do what I can to make sure both of us get in.

Is it okay for me to post a reply to such an old thread? I'm really pretty much a newbie to forums on the web... I'm more of a usenet gal. 🙂

Anyway... was happy to find this thread.

I'm also just a lowly freshman.. well, at the end of this semester (taking 4 classes online right now) I'll have enough hours to technically be a sophomore, but I haven't taken any sciences.. pretty messed up, huh?

Mainly because I'm the breadwinner for my family, and the nearest state university is a good hour drive from where I live... so night classes aren't much of an option. Oh, and did I mention that I have two kids, ages 4 years and 9 mos (the youngest of which is still breastfed?) Whew!

(on the verge of insanity already.....)

welcome manna!

I have almost the same situation as you. I'm technically still a sophomore, but have been going to college forever plus working full time. I have a 10 month old and 1 on the way. I have only taken general bio so far and plan to take 2nd level bio next semester. Then the rest. My wife thinks im insane and has kind of been fighting me.

My threads are all over the place. I have 1 in Allo about commuting.

I have 2 in spouses forum. Nice to see ya around.

Thanks... I think I've seen your posts around OPM as well?

Sorry to hear about the situation with your wife. That's gotta be tough... I hope she'll come around and realize that she really should support you in your dream. Easier said than done, I know (I have a better-half whose dream is to go to culinary school, so that's a frightening prospect to me in the same way that you in med school is probably terrifying to your wife).

Luckily, my husband and extended family are pretty supportive, but they all are fearful that my ideas of going into medicine are just to live up to my brother (who is in his second year of a FP residency). Blah!

Oh, and congratulations! Having two kids so close together will probably be tough, but I'm sure, worth it... I always wished as a child that I had siblings closer to my age (my only brother is 11 years my senior... oh and yes, he was 36 when he graduated med school.. with three homeschooled kids and a stay-at-home wife to boot). 🙂

yeah i know it can be done, and I feel like I can do it.. its just hard when you dont have support.

I almost have to find my own time to study..

Oh, my husband gripes that I don't need him for anything anymore! Complains that I spend too much time in front of the computer, how dare he! (blame it on the fact that the 12 hours I'm taking are all online/distance courses).

Sorry to hear that. I know when I was staying home on maternity leave, I was all too eager to toss one of the kids into "Dad's" arms once he got home, just for a break. Maybe your wife is burnt-out/depressed?

Hey agent, I feel for ya. I'm in the same boat...will hopefully be the first professional in my family, got 8 siblings all younger than me, my mom and dad are unemployed, my dad cuz he's permanently disabled, and I'm married with 1 daughter (who's extremely untamed, btw), and I get the feeling more and more that my hubbie doesn't really want to lose me to med school. What's a girl to do? Life is so stressful. 🙁

is that earring real?

yeah it just looks all bling-blingy from the camera 😉

kaos I here ya. keep your head up. I am. I feel like if i just keep on truckin and get close to applying she'll get on board.
