Anyone waitlisted after interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It means different things for different schools. Some schools waitlist a lot of people, some don't. It's definitely better than being rejected though. I'd be happy that they like you enough to keep you around. Chin up.

I was put "on hold" at UF and on an "alternate list" at miami (main campus). I know its early but it just seems like a pattern. Do you think these schools only initially accept students with teh highest mcats (35-40), and then those students decide to go elsewhere (harvard, stanford, duke, upenn etc) and then they take the more normal applicants?

If they take the time to interview you then you have usually gotten past the MCAT/GPA hurdle. There are a few exceptions such as where I am at FSU where they are really looking for people to fit the mission, so they might interview you and then see if you raised the MCAT to a certain point.

If you are waitlisted it usually means you weren't that bad but you weren't that great at the interview either. I wouldn't start sending letters of commitment yet, but I'd keep them updated and let them know you are very interested in the program. Bust your ass and do well in classes for the semester, continue volunteering, work hard, and do whatever else it takes. Don't just sit there and say "Welp, I'm on the waitlist" and sit around twiddling your thumbs. Try to be proactive.

I am not taking classes, I am a career changer. But I see what you mean. What do you mean by a letter of commitment? I have never heard of this.

OP - UF puts most of its initial interviewees on hold so that kids interviewing in feb have the same shot at getting in as kids who interview in october. but since in the end, UF takes like 70% of the kids that they interview, the odds are in your favor.

i don't know too much about miami's process, but rest assured your UF waitlist is something that most people who interviewed are getting right now.

I was waitlisted at creighton. I guess its just w/e its part of the process and tons of people are accepted off the waitlist at many schools so i try not to worry. I just keep telling myself it only takes one so i try not to get to insane lol.

True! But it is still disappointing when it is your #1 choice school!
