Anything UNSOM

I filed the FAFSA a couple weeks ago. I got an e-mail back from the UNR financial aid office shortly afterwards saying that they had received it.

Here's the relevant information from the e-mail -

"Our office will begin processing financial aid for 2007-2008 in mid March/early April. At that time, please check ePAWS (www.unr.edu) to view the status of your financial aid file. Our office communicates with students by sending both postcards and e-mail notifications.

The following are some general processing timelines:

January: Begin downloading 2007-2008 FAFSA's
March: Requests for additional documents available on ePAWS
April: Offer Letters available on ePAWS
~ Immediately submit Loan Activation Form(s) if borrowing Stafford or PLUS Loans~
June 15: Deadline for submission of verification/additional documents or financial aid offer will be withdrawn.
June 15: Deadline to be enrolled at least half-time or more for fall semester or financial aid offer will be withdrawn.

This is not an exhaustive list of all financial aid dates."
 
If you file FAFSA and have not been accepted, even if you're waitlisted, they tell you that you can't apply for financial aid until you have been admitted. Then you have to re-file. It stinks because even if you file before the priority deadline, UNR doesn't process it until after you've been admitted. I just submitted mine and included UNR, just in case.

Good luck to everyone this week. If letters went out, they should arrive by Thursday. Hope everyone gets good news. Unless your good news means bad news for me.
 
how about, some wonderful person (maybe you?) calls tomorrow (or emails) to find out the status of the letters (are they in the mail? are they going to be in the mail (ever?:laugh: ), and does this include decisions for the OOSers ?<-- emphasis on this last part!!!)...I would do it myself, but i just can't call anymore: they've heard enough from me! (im a tad paranoid about this...like I'm going to pester them right out of giving me an admission) Anyone who can manage to do this, and then posts what they find out, will be my new best friend!!

I already sent an email to find out if the letters are on the way. I didn't ask if Out of State is included though. I will post what I hear back.
 
I just emailed the lady in charge of OOS applications and will post when I hear from her. Think happy thoughts!!!!!
 
Hopefully no one has received anything in the mail yet, b/c I am pretty close to Reno and got nothing today. Anyone know anything about the decision letters.

well, looks like some people tried to figure out what's going on..hmm..something tells me the actual letters might get here before anyone gets a response ...ha ha...here's hoping!

Yeah I neurotically checked my email about 200 times today. Finally got a window that said you have one new message and it was FAFSA. Hopefully we all get replies tomorrow.
 
Just received a reply from the lady in charge of OOS. She stated that the earliest I will hear anything is mid-february and to hang in there! Not sure if this is a standard answer or if they really aren't meeting or sending out decisions until later. Good luck everyone!!!

Well, thanks for finding out...but if they really did meet last week...?...im so confused....maybe they have to meet a couple of times.,..i dont know...I just know that I'm tired of waiting...but yeah, who isnt...
 
Called just to check when letters are sent out...bummer...they send them out the 15th. Maybe there is more than one adcom meeting? Who knows.... maybe our letters are marinating in someone's file cabinet until the 15th so we can sit and agonize for another 9 days.
 
I still haven't heard a reply from my email, but from what everyone says on here it looks like we're waiting for another week & a half (at least).
 
Did anyone besides Orima file their FAFSA already? Did anyone who is not accepted file FAFSA and include UNSOM? I have a question if you did.
 
I filled out the FAFSA and included UNSOM. I got the email today saying that they received it.
 
I filled it out as well and included UNSOM, but I have to check if I got an email about finaid from them. I really don't think so. I have to file my taxes next week then send in revisions.
 
Hey, I interviewed in early January as OOS and got an email from the admission coordinator today saying that I could hear back anytime from after mid-Feb. until mid-April...

Hey,

Does anyone know if there's a second look for UNSOM or if they would give you a tour of the school if you call them up? I opted to stay in Vegas for the interview. I have visited the campus for a friends graduation but really havent seen anything of the med school. This is all pending on an acceptance of course😀 ...but I am just wondering if the admissions office is up to giving tours after the fact. Hope yall are doing great! I'm currently on the east coast for a couple days and OMG its freezing...my ears are about to fall off.
 
They do - http://www.unr.edu/med/dept/asa/students/incoming_advance.htm . Looks like you need to get your acceptance by February, though.

I'm not sure if I will go or not. It'll depend on which day it is and whether or not I can find someone willing to watch my girls all day. And it seems a little silly for me to go since I know for sure I will be attending. From the link, it seems like it will be geared more towards people who are undecided. I would like to go, though to get even more of an idea of what we are getting ourselves into!

Yeah, if they send out these "feb 15th" letters the way they sent out our "jan. 15th" letters, MARCH it is!! I felt so betrayed after the last go-round...my interviewer wrote it down for me on a piece of paper (and circled it in bold): "January 15th"....Ah, no sense complaining now, i've lamented all this before...can't help if im still bitter...:laugh:

i remember feeling like those 60 days waiting for the mcat scores were long and horrible...i had no idea what i was in for! i feel like ive just been sitting around waiting, for something or other, for the last 10 months. I'm tired of having to explain to people who keep asking if "i've heard anything yet," especially when they ask about schools i've already told them ive been waitlisted at. Now, when anyone asks me about ANY school (be it the ones i interview at in sep/oct, or the one from last week) I just say "August. I won't know until august." (Now Plllleassse, stop brininging it up!) Just when I'm able to stop obssesing about it for a few days, someone goes and brings it up again...And besides, don't they know if I HAD heard something, they would DEFINITELY KNOW!! I would be running around jumping up and down and waving a big happy flag!...even the people who didnt WANT to know, would be hearing about it!!!
Ahhh! ....Okay, that was some good venting...I feel better now.

If your interviewer told you Jan 15th and you didn't get anything, you might have been waitlisted. They don't send waitlist letters out until the end of the committee meetings, no matter when you get reviewed. So, even if you get reviewed in January and get waitlisted, you don't hear anything until March or April.
 
I think Leiki is referring to the OOSers not being included in the January group despite what her interviewer had said.
 
Yeah, I should have read the earlier posts, OOS will definitely not hear until the letters sent on Feb. 15th. But for any in-staters, no letter may mean waitlisted, but that really doesn't help either because they won't tell you when or if you are reviewed.

Acceptances (and rejections) go out today (at the latest) in certified mail. Hope everyone gets good news by Monday.
 
now, "certified mail" is the kind you have to sign for, right?? or am i thinking of something else? maybe it travels faster than regular mail:laugh: ...hmm..my nearest netflix distribution center is OOS, and i always get movies two days after they mail them...so, here's hoping for saturday (fingers crossed)

For those of you in Reno, I'd guess you will have something delivered tomorrow if you are in this round of notifications. My letter was sent 10/2 and delivered on 10/3. And certified is the kind you have to sign for, no clue if it is any faster.
 
Stupid mailman picked today to deliver some movies I ordered about 3 weeks ago, I was standing near my front window when he pulled up and my heart started pounding until I saw the box. Tomorrow's more likely, but like I said - I'm feelin' March.
 
FRICK!! only mail i got today was my power bill! two days should be plently of time for mail to make it one state over...what gives?? arg!

Still waiting for the doorbell to ring or the mailman to come by... I feel like calling the post office and seeing what time they usually come to my side of town. I have to go to work soon. This is just sad and pathetic🙄
 
I just realized that I have to leave soon because traffic is HORRENDOUS right now because of all-star weekend. I did see Tony Parker and Eva Langoria last night at the Venetian. That was pretty exciting! haha. what a loser...
 
My mailman usually comes between 1 and 3, and I have to go to work at 3:00. Hopefully I get some good news so work will be less awful. Hopefully UNR actually sent the letters out on the 15th so we're not all waiting for nothing.

UGH!!!! Is mail being delivered on Monday?

I know that feeling of waiting for the mailman, though. With EDP, all I knew was that I would find out sometime before 10/1 since that is the EDP notification deadline. That happened to be a Sunday so I figured that latest I would be notified was 9/30. Well the mail came and went that day and I was just devastated. I called the admissions office first thing Monday morning (10/2 now). They said that they understood the 10/1 date as the day the letters needed to be sent out, but since it was a Sunday they were sending out the letters that Monday morning. I begged a little bit with the receptionist to see if I could be told over the phone and she put me on hold and then transferred me to Linda who just told me over the phone. 😉 I didn't care so much about the wait after that, but I was seriously losing my mind before then.

I thought for sure someone would have heard something by today, though. 🙁 I really feel for all of you!!
 
Looks like I won't be uprooting my family, just got the sad news from the adcom. I'll call 'em on Tues to see where I went wrong, sure a 3.6/27 aren't stellar, but I had awesome ECs and letters, but I guess that couldn't quite overcome my avgstats+malewhiteness, too bad. On the bright side, my DO app just got processed so hopefully Touro has some room, I would gladly spend the extra 100K+(over 4yrs) and be up for explaining the what/why DO -daily (which might include- fear of my wife leaving me if I waited another year so I could go allopathic :laugh: ). Seriously though, everything works out for the best, I was concerned about leaving town and both our families with twins on the way. Anyhow- good luck to the rest of you.

I didn't receive anything in the mail today, so I must be waitlisted. Did anyone else in Vegas get anything?
 
Awesome..I guess that means waitlist if I didn't get anything today right... Sorry to hear about the bad news Jennsnate. That sucks. Hopefully Touro will show some love🙂

As for mail on Monday..that will be a negatory. Tuesday it is. And no one will be home all day. This just gets better.
