I was awarded AP credit for multiple classes, including Bio I and II and Chem I and II. However, my school does not include this on my transcript. I noticed tons of secondaries mention that the credit is only accepted if it is on a transcript...

What do I do? I'm really worried this technicality will keep me from med schools!

I think you might be out of luck. Schools specifically say they need your AP credits to appear on your transcript. Maybe contact your undergrad registrar?

General advice: Talk to your registrar and see if they have any form or amendum that they can send out.

More specific: If you go to a certain SUNY, in which I had the same problem, you need to talk to Lynn and she will write a letter to the schools/AMCAS to clarify the matter.

I was told it works out fine, and this is something they have to do every year because our registrar is 'simply a pain' according to our pre-health advisor.

I don't go to a SUNY school... I sent an e-mail to the registrar. Hopefully they will take care of it. I swear, if this keeps me out of med school I'll be so mad.

Plus, my AMCAS is already verified, so they won't make any changes to it, will they? Do I need to have a letter sent to every school?

I'm not sure about that. I had it sent to AMCAS before submitting. I ended up not submitting this year but that's a completely different story. Have to do that all over again, whatever. Try calling AMCAS.

i think you are going to be out of luck. this is something you really should have thought about when you first decided to be pre-med (not trying to be mean here).

i would call asap (not email) your registrar office and see what they can do. my perception is that most registrars are useless and won't help people who really need them. if you can, go in person and start talking to them and if they won't help, ask them to tell you who supervises them (whatever dean that may be). talk to him or her and plead to them. it might be a battle.

Will this automatically reject my application, or would it just mean I'd need to retake the classes before matriculation?

you still can take the classes, but some schools need all requirements done by the end of the fall semester. depending on how many courses you need to take, this may not be possible.

schools, however, are probably going to want to see your grades in those classes. so not having them done will put you at a disadvantage i would think

I'm guessing that if you don't have the required classes shown on your transcripts, then you are quickly screened out.

I don't understand though. If you are verified, then how did the AP credits get approved when you filled out the AMCAS?

It's not that I haven't taken the classes.. They're just not explicitly listed on my transcript. It's all lumped together as one "advanced placement" class with a ton of credit hours. That's why I included on AMCAS, because that's what my transcript says..

I can't believe this may keep me out of medical school, just because my university doesn't list my classes the same way everyone else's does..

ugh!

In addition to contacting your school, I suggest you contact the schools you applied to and see what their advice is. Your school is not a rarity in that AP credit doesn't appear on your transcripts. I'm sure med schools administration encounters this problem every year, so talk to the schools and see what they can do for you as well.

I know that medical schools like when you take prereq classes in college. You should do that, and AP out of everything.

My university doesn't explicitly list AP credit on my transcript. However, they list it as transfer credit, and then have a separate sheet that lists what exactly they gave me transfer credit for. I got both sent to AMCAS, and they had no problems verifying it (though the second time, my school was a pain about it... I had to go make a copy of my own sheet that I got when I was first accepted and made a note on the transcript request form that I wanted the sheet included). I don't see why med schools wouldn't accept it, considering my school accepted it for degree-required courses.
