HAHAH well when that rejection letter comes in I will definitely refer to your comment for immense comfort! Plus I've never lived in a climate that has weather below 50 degrees so I'll just reason that I'm not meant to live in a cold state and it will make it all better!
Also goose poop, all over the walkways. DO YOU WANT GOOSE POOPS TO BE A PART OF YOUR INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE?? Lol

Hello everyone! First time posting on here. Has anyone had conflicting interview offers? If so, what did you do? I had already accepted an interview offer for a site on January 10th (a date I picked out of 3 options) but then today I got another interview offer for the same day at another site (no other optional dates offered). I emailed the site back explaining that I am unavailable on that day and inquired if there were any openings on another interview date. However, it doesn’t sound promising because their initial email stated that interview flexibility is limited. If they really can’t provide me with another interview date is it acceptable to recontact the first site to see if they can be flexible and switch me to another day? I feel like that will come off very unprofessional! 🙁

Does the second site do phone interviews?

Wait until the second site gets back to you. Then email the first site if you need to. My DCT suggested this option when I had conflicting interviews. Worst comes to worse, think about what site you want more and interview there.

Has anyone else heard from Vanderbilt University Medical Center (child track) or Lurie Children’s Hospital? It looks like one person posted with an invite to Lurie but curious if many invites have gone out today for that site.

Also curious about Lurie Children's Hospital. I saw the other invite and was hoping they were just going out in waves, but no email 🙁

I don’t think they offer phone interviews but I will definitely ask! It just makes me nervous to have to decide not to attend an interview offer due to conflicts. This process is so competitive and I’m worried that just because I get interviews doesn’t mean I will be one of the few people to actually match at any given site. I feel like I need to attend all the interviews that I get offered or I diminish my chances at matching.

I haven’t heard from Vanderbilt yet!

Has anyone received a rejection from Lucile Packard? Saw someone got an invite but haven't heard anything. Having mixed feelings about sites sending out invites/rejections before their listed notification date! Ahh

Contact the TD and explain the situation. We get it. There may also be some wiggle room in terms of a video or phone interview (though you aren't able to get a feel for the physical characteristics of the site that way). Good luck!

Congrats! This site looks amazing! I haven't gotten a rejection yet, so I'm still hoping I'll get an invite here, too. 🙂

I'm having a very similar conflict right now (might actually be the same program)! It just seems that as soon as some of the stress of receiving notifications is over, now there's new stress around actually being able to attend all the interviews. It doesn't help that after asking if I can attend the interview on a different day, the coordinator didn't really give a definitive answer of whether or not they'd be able to accommodate my request. Ugh. 🙁

I agree. It’s such a stressful process! Especially when so many of the sites have their interviews in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of January. There is just so much overlap, which I understand is likely unavoidable on their end. I just think it would be helpful if there was a wider spread of interview dates offered.

So I feel like the only person who has not heard anything from my 18 sites (good or bad), and I'm starting to freak out! On the positive side, I think Western State Hospital and UCLA Semel Institute are the only sites of mine that have sent anything out (and I applied to the Major Mental Illness track at UCLA so they haven't notified yet), but it's so stressful nonetheless. I just want to know SOMETHING! With that being said, has anyone gotten a rejection notification from Western State Hospital? This is not the most fun process!
I think it's common not to hear until the week of or after Thanksgiving. I got my first notification on Thursday and some of my other friends haven't heard from any yet either. Hang in there!

Hey everyone!
I just wanted to remind everyone of the SSCP Internship Hotel/Carpool match-up service for those of you who might not be aware of it. This is a cool service OPEN TO ANYONE regardless of SSCP membership. You fill out a form about your interview city and date and SSCP can match you with others looking for hotel or carpool accommodations as well. Makes it easy to split costs during this very expensive season. I've attached the email from SSCP below:

Dear Students Applying for Internship,

As internship interview offers are coming in, we wanted to remind students of our excellent resource for internship applicants: the SSCP Internship Hotel/Carpool Match-Up. This resource is FREE and open to ALL students, regardless of graduate program or SSCP membership status.

The SSCP Internship Hotel/Carpool Match-Up allows interested students to coordinate directly with other students to find a roommate and/or carpool buddy request for any/all internship interview dates.
If you are interested in participating, please submit a SEPARATE entry on the request form for EACH interview site/date. Click here to access the request form: https://forms.gle/PJnScaQ1iSPg2HLr7

Upon submitting your information via the request form, you will gain access to a spreadsheet with other student's requests and information. You can then contact other students who are requesting the same date(s)/location(s) to coordinate your hotel plans.

Feel free to share the request form link to any friends (remember, this is free for ALL students regardless of graduate program type or SSCP membership status).

Best,
Ana Rabasco and Joya Hamilton, SSCP Student Representatives
Ellie Steele, Mississippi State University SSCP Campus Representative

I am new to this forum so I apologize if this is random. But, it was posted that people have heard from Federal correctional facilities in Kentucky and Texas. I am still waiting to hear from them. Does this mean that I am rejected and that I will not hear from them? I heard from all other federal locations on the 11/11-11/12 dates.

Me too!

Has anyone had a site call their references for a "reference check"? I'm curious how common these are...

What are folks doing about UW? Are we supposed to e-mail inquiring, or just wait?

If you are referring to University of Washington SOM, I personally did not apply there but feel that I've seen a post about the site. They have different notification dates on APPIC Directory (11/22) vs. their brochure (12/04), the latter of which explicitly states to not email unless you believe there is a problem. If the brochure is the correct information, applicants still under consideration by 12/04 will be invited for Open House/interviews. If I'm referring to the wrong UW, my apologies.

Just for clarification - for those who heard from OSU Wexner and mentioned the Adult track, were you referring to the Adult Psychopathology track or the Clinical Health track?

Thanks for the clarification! Totally forgot about the discrepancy and thought 11/22 was the only date listed.

Today is going to be interesting. I have to submit my chapter to the editors by end of business today, and I am at 40% completion. There is one site for sure who is supposed to be getting back to me today, and possibly some others. Feeling the pressure for sure. Crossing fingers for positive results today!

The only federal site/BOP I applied to was KY and I did not receive the mass invite that went out, and also have not received a formal rejection. I’m counting it as a rejection now, just waiting for the mass email!
It is bizarre that they typically sent the rejection email within days of the mass invite being sent out (according to past years threads).

I would probably hold off on counting it a rejection just yet. I decided to browse last year's thread (30 pages out of 88), and one of the common themes I found was the perception that if you didn't receive an invite from a track, you were rejected. I must admit, I have had the same thoughts as well. However, it appears that even tracks will both send their invitations separately from another, and, tracks will often send them out in waves. For example, you might have applied to a neuro track at X program and they sent their first wave invitations on 11/15, however, the same track will send out another wave of invites perhaps several days, or maybe even a week later. IT was comforting to see that was a pattern amongst some sites. From what I read, it seems that sites do this for a variety of reasons, however, one big reason is to allow their first wave of invites to respond back. Based on their responses, they will send a second (maybe a third) wave of invites to fill the available interview slots they have. Thus, they maximize their probability to match good quality candidates to their program in the end. Hang in there. 🙂
