That number is "the frequency at which the numbers of offers to interview was attained in that sample." Less of the sample was offered 14 interviews. It looks like the probability of matching levels out at 14 interviews.

Honestly I am so exhausted after just one interview... either it’s my tendency to over-prepare or just being burnt out from a long semester. I cannot imagine doing this multiple times a day for 2 weeks straight while working on dissertation. -sigh- (but I guess I should be grateful for having interviews...?)

I interviewed at 11 VA sites last year and did not have any written requirement. The majority of questions were the usual PBI questions.

I applied to a lot of state hospitals. No VAs. You’ll probably be okay.
 
So I’m waiting to hear back from child/peds tracks at Cleveland Clinic, Denver Health, Penn State/Hershey, & Mailman Center. I know people have already heard back from these sites, so realistically should I be expecting a rejection at this point?
 
I just had a site contact me, say they had a follow up question for me, and requested to set up a time to speak with them for like 10 minutes. What does this mean? Has this happened to anyone?

In my experience, past the notification date is always a rejection. However, some sites take weeks to invite everyone and it does not mean they skipped you if you heard colleagues have gotten an invitation. So I would not lose hope!

It means they're still considering you! And perhaps they'll invite you to interview once they get additional information?!

I don't really know what it means, but good luck!

Hi, I received an interview offer from Westchester Jewish Community Services a week ago—I’m a child person. Still waiting to hear from Mount Sinai AHC, Montefiore, LIJMC, and NYC Children’s Center, if anyone has news from those!

Hey anyone hear from Agnesian Healthcare in WI or Bexar County Juvenile Probation?
 
I am hoping for some thoughts on what to do with luggage on interview days when traveling to sites. Do you think it’s acceptable to bring to the interview site if flying out immediately following the interview? Thank you for your help

Bring it to the site. I'd say about half of our applicants have luggage with them on interview days every year. We usually have a set aside area for it for people to leave during interviews, no problem.

Yeah, people are reading this graph wrong. The bars are frequency of getting that many invitations in the sample. The line above that shows the probability of matching

Yes! Many people do this. You may want to reach out to the TD in advance to ask about where you could store your luggage during the interview. We get it. Please don’t stress over this, we want to be as helpful as possible. Hang in there.

Writing samples are more uncommon, but definitely not unheard of. Having people formulate diagnostics given a vignette with data is more common. All fair game. We want to see how you think. Prepared reports are poor examples as they are generally templated and fairly heavily edited from supervisors.

I got a call from WJCS today and they offered 2 dates (neither of which I could make). The lady I spoke with said she’d call me back but I didn’t hear back from her ...but I know they made some calls last week as well, so they still appear to be scheduling

No, you are reading the graph wrong. The vertical bars are a histogram showing how many people in their sample got that many interviews. See the axis label on the right side. Fewer people got 14 interviews compared to, say, 7 interviews.

Probabilities are depicted on the solid black line that curves at the top and are reflected by the left axis label. According to that line, the marginal benefit of every interview increasing the probability of matching levels off at 6-7 interviews. It looks like people who got 6 interviews had a 90% chance of matching. 7 interviews was maybe closer to 95%. 14 interviews has a tiny bit more of a chance of matching (97%?) but not a great deal more than 6-7 which just makes it not worth it to go to double the interviews. Having more than 6-7 wont hurt you, it just might not help you that much, so prioritize the 6-7 interviews you’re most interested in.

Whew, I was getting worried there for a minute. Glad someone came in to correctly interpret that data. Stats is definitely a good part of the EPPP, study up!

I wouldn't decline an interview unless you have an offer for an interview that is (a) logistically impossible to schedule due to another interview, (b) a site you weren't/aren't as interested in (and might not be able to demonstrate enthusiasm about during the interview), or (c) the travel expenses or schedule would be stressful enough to outweigh the benefit of having that extra interview.
I did have to decline one that was logistically impossible to attend. To be honest, I was a bit relieved to save money and simplify my schedule, but I wouldn't have declined it just for the sake of already having an adequate number of interviews.

Most of my rejections have been decent/politically correct, however, one email I received was less than stellar. Oh well...it's not like I worked on this application since June; writing, re-wrote, edited, and revised countless essays, cover letters, reports, case summaries, or copies of my CV. Naw...it was simple and cheap 🙂 More people should do this just for fun...

I was joking with my spouse the other day..."can I just use the feature of disputing charges on my credit card?" My credit card company will provide a credit of $1500 a year in disputes, no questions asked, regardless of the merchant. Again, it was a joke...a funny thought.

I got a rejection from WJCS - which is sad because it was one of my top sites - so if you haven't yet you may hear from them still!

I'd say that if they are putting it out there that you can reach out to them, do it! They may have some helpful insights and they're inviting you to.

Remember, rest easy...it was you, not them. 😛 Naw, at least the whole "it just wasn't a good fit" explanation comes up. It can be comforting for a while, then it's not.
