APPIC Internship Phase II Interview & Support Thread (2021)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey my fellow Phase II-ers. I figured we could start up our own thread for Phase II.
Hopefully this is a safe space where we can provide each other with support, advice, and post about interview notifications.

I hope everyone is taking care of themselves during these challenging times.
Thank you for creating this thread. Does anyone know how soon we should expect to start hearing from sites?

I'm not involved in training but during my internship year, my VA site had a Phase II spot for the next class and our TD started working immediately on reviewing applications, setting up phone conference interviews and connecting my class with the new applicants to answer questions.

It's a much more manageable set of applications to review and some may also be quickly discarded due to poor fit so I'd expect to hear back early to mid next week to allow time for interviews to happen before the end of the 3/12 business week.

Good luck to all who will be participating!

Hey all. I'm finding the uncertainty of not having a specific "interview notification date" stressful. Unsure when to expect hearing about interviews/when to be concerned. Anyone else experiencing this? I know there's no solution besides just... waiting 🙄

It is one of many things that is stressful about this ridiculous process, so I relate!... but yeah, I'm not mad... haha

Yes I am feeling the same!! Especially because they do not have to email rejection letters either.

Yup! I'm back at it with the constant email refreshing, ugh.

Download spark! This app constantly refreshes for you and sends you a notification on your screen. Best thing ever. Prevents me from spending too much time checking the phone.

Good luck everyone!! Best wishes and hopes for the least stress and best outcome possible as you navigate through phase II.

Out of curiosity, anyone here waiting on Canada or just US sites?
I applied to accredited sites in both countries! (I'm fortunate to have dual citizenship as my father is Canadian). I didn't really look at Canadian sites the first go round, but I found a couple Canadian consortiums that I really like in phase 2!

just out of curiousity, how many sites did everyone apply to? I applied to 8.
I applied to 12 and plan on applying to a 13th with an extended deadline now that I've caught up a bit on sleep. Lol. I'll be totally honest though and admit that 2-4 of the sites I applied to are not the best fits. I already had the cover letters mostly written and the app fees were waived, so I figured why not?

Very similar thing here! I applied to 12 and thinking about 2 more, although some are a bit of a stretch in terms of fit.

Best of luck everyone! I know my current internship site received nearly as many applications in Phase II as we did in Phase I this year, so hang in there - I imagine it might take a little while for multiple staff to review and rate everyone’s application.

Whats your site?

Hi everyone,
Thanks for starting this group! I have two interviews so far; one from Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa and another at the National Consortium, Great Lakes, Valley Oaks in Indiana. Someone from a Phase II Google Group started this spreadsheet so we can keep track of which sites are being contacted for interviews. Good luck, I hope we all get more interview invites later today or Monday. I agree most invites will probably come next week. Here is the spreadsheet. Debbie

My current practicum is an internship site and my supervisor told me they're not planning on contacting applicants until Tuesday. Hang in there guys.
What type of site is your current prac?

Hi Everyone,

This was a google doc excel sheet that I created. I read on the APPIC website that sites are not obligated to inform an applicant that they did not get an interview like they did in Phase 1. Which is to bad, I think any answer is better than nothing.

Nevertheless, I just put together an excel sheet with all the sites (that were listed on the website not the Late Breaking News - so please add the site name and concentration if you do not find the site on this document). Im suggesting if you hear back from a site then you can update the excel sheet. This way we can track what sites are calling and when they have called. If we don't hear back from a site then we can decide what to do - either reach out to them to confirm if they are sending us an interview or do nothing. But at least we have some information.

I'm not really an expert of google drive so hopefully I did it correctly. You can find the document at the link below and add in your information. You will also be able to see a live screenshot of what it looks like. You won't be able to add to it without going to the link below.

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_I3OCarhJDi23EI-XhNH3bawtnGWCqA-U9IIQItrPMs/edit#gid=0

Obviously anyone with this link can edit the document. So take this information with a grain of salt. Also it might be that some people are not adding to the document so it could be an underestimate of what is actually happening.

Kind regards,

Matt

This is a bit random, but I just had the easiest interview-scheduling experience and wanted to share something positive.

Mid-Ohio Psychological Services used Eventbrite to schedule their interviews, which was super clever! They had three different time slots, each of which was listed its own event on Eventbrite. To schedule your time slot, you just entered their applicant password and registered for the (free) event on Eventbrite, just like you would register for a webinar. You could see if a time slots was "sold out," and you automatically received a confirmation email after you signed up. I loved it! No doodle polls or back and forth about availability!

Anybody else been impressed by the cleverness or level of organization some sites are showing as they navigate virtual interviews?

How is everyone doing interview invites wise? I hate that they’re not required to send out rejections. I’m trying to gauge when they’ll stop coming in.

Thus far I was invited to interview for 4 sites and 1 rejection.

I have 10 interviews (8 sites) so far and applied to 14 sites but still waiting to hear from sites that I was really excited about (assuming I will hear back by end of week/early next week). I heard some applicants even heard from Phase 2 sites a few days before ranking lists were due, so holding out hope!
That’s amazing. You’re kicking ass! Hopefully you can hear back from your most desired site!
