Application and a chance for an interview got kicked back to October for UNC. Why?

Got a buddy boi, who is applying to unc and he called to see if they have reviewed his application. They told him that they have reviewed his application but they put it back to the application pool for a chance to interview in october vs. this comming september 16th. What the heck is going on? His stats almost match up with unc's stats. A bit lower on the DAT but right on with the GPA. He's from instate and from unc. Anybody in the same circumstance? Any explanation? Are they interviewing more out-of-staters for sep. 16th?

I wouldn't worry about it. September is very early for interviews. As long as he gets an interview before December hes in great position. Schools have a limited number of sports for interview on any given date, anywhere from 5 - 30 depending on the school and how they run their interviews. It may be that they had filled up the interview spots for September by the time they got to review his application, or maybe they only wanted to interview the very top of the line studets during September. There is no way to know for sure, but if his stats are solid and he is in state then I'm sure he will get an interview sometime in the next two months.

I wouldn't panic. There's still the October and November interview dates. I will say that there are hundreds of applicants with qualified numbers and many won't even get an interview. There were roughly 2500 Applications for 80 or so spots. I know many applicants last year who had 21-24s on the DAT and decent GPAs who weren't accepted. So nothing's gaurenteed. It's a bit of a crap shoot. But if your friend has good numbers and an alum, there is a good chance of getting an interview. Good luck.

Yes. They generally interview most (but not all) of the out-of-staters the first two interviews.

i am confused 😕 , on predents.com they say UNC had 593 applicants (last year?), but you are saying 2500. that's a BIG difference😱 . what is the story here?

My bad. I got carried away. The exact number was 1358 last year. 593 was two years ago and I think that number only represents in state. You can expect the total number to top atleast 1500 this year I would say. Still only 80 spots.
