Since you guys are already students, what would you recommend as being essential qualities of an applicant for DO school? I mean, what kind of people are the admissions committe really looking for in thier potential students?

Beside your grade. DO schools want to know whether you can understand the philosophy of osteopathic medicine and how can you prove it.

Find a local DO and shadow the DO. Go to the osteopathic medicine web site and search for reading material about osteopathic medicine.

In addition, DO school will look at your personality and how mature you are. One important thing is make sure you send you application very early, and I mean if you can , send the application during June.
