This post doesn't really have any point, I just felt like blurting something out to other people who know what I'm going through! My application has officially been submitted to PTCAS!!!! Here are my "stats":
Undergraduate GPA: Not entirely sure, PTCAS still processing, guessing about 3.6 though. I was 3.43 for my BA in communication, but since going back to school for pre-reqs I have been 4.0, so not entirely sure how that will shake out in the end. I'm about 3.7 over last 60 credits of classes.
Prereq GPA: 3.9 - All As other than 1 B I got in statistics back in my sophomore year.
BA in Communication from UC Davis, majority of pre-reqs from community college after return to school to pursue PT
GRE A - 166 (94%)
GRE V - 163 (91%)
GRE W - 4.5 (76%)
Ob Hours: 50 outpatient ortho, 50 inpatient hospital acute care, 70 elementary school - pediatrics
Extra Curricular: this was kind of weird for me since I have been out of school for 7 years. Was president and captain of UC Davis Rugby Club. Did some short volunteer work over summer at an elementary school and coaching rugby camps. Since graduating I have been a part of various athletics related clubs, San Diego Tri Club, San Diego Bicycle Club, OMBAC Rugby Club.
Work history: I won't go into the details but I worked on the business side of the endurance sports industry (Road Runner Sports for 2.5 years and Zoot Sports for 3.5 years). I have also been a part time CrossFit coach/personal trainer for about 6 years as well.
LOR: I think I have 4 excellent letters, though I guess that's kind of subjective so I'm not really sure how they stack up. 2 from PTs, 1 from a professor at community college where I am doing my pre-reqs, and 1 from my old "employer" at the first CrossFit gym I coached at (for about 3 years) who also happens to be a doctor.
Essays: This is pretty subjective but I feel really good about them.
Applying to: University of Washington, University of St. Augustine (San Marcos)
I feel like I have put together a very strong application, but I'm still extremely nervous! I feel like since making the decision to go back to school to pursue PT I have been near perfect on doing what I need to do to make my application as good as possible, however, my undergrad degree still feels weak, communication is not a very demanding major and 3.43 GPA is not very impressive, plus as a comm major I feel like I should have been able to do better than a 4.5 on the GRE-W. I have only done the bare minimum of pre-reqs and don't have any of the "suggested" classes. I'm not terribly concerned with that though, I think I have made the case well that I am an exceptionally strong student now. What makes me nervous is that at the open house for UW it seemed like everyone there also had near perfect applications, and a lot of people had work experience as PT aids and such which seems like it would give them an edge over me, plus more volunteer work (outside of PT). I really want to go to UW so even though I know I have a very good application and have a solid shot of getting in, I'm still nervous as hell! Ok, I'm done now!
