Apply Early

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not much - when people say apply early, they mean don't apply in August or September. Applying June 15th instead of July 1 won't give you that much of an edge as far as an acceptance is concerned (because they review files in batches - ranges of dates), but you WILL get secondaries earlier. I'd say you can apply as late as early July and still be ok.

yeah man, you got to apply early. These days, applying early seems to be the norm, so the advantage is really all that much. Its the disadvantage of applying later that will get you. My suggestion, send AMCAS as soon as possible. With the secondaries, get them out as soon as you can, but make sure you put time and effor, or will all be for not!
by the way, I got this info. from the forum, as I am applying this summer as well! I wish US luck!

anytime i see people saying "i wish US luck" I feel gooood inside. you guys are the 'new breed' of SDNers...our 'offspring'--and you will be awesome.

I wish you all luck as well.

i would say get your AMCAS in by the end of June.
return all secondaries as soon as you can after you get them.

i know i'm anal but since i don't doubt many of you are too, i can admit that i sent most my secondaries in within a week.

Maybe it's because vyc and I came from the same school that we had this drilled into our heads, but stay on top of the applications. There's no reason not to submit AMCAS early. The system seems to be working this year (at least better than last year's did). The secondaries typically come in a flurry. I gave myself about 3 days from the time they arrived to get them turned around. It worked well and I felt pretty on top of the process.

Submit AMCAS as soon as possible - but never ever give in a Rushed Application - this is in regards to your personal statement (get ready to make several draft until it sounds great and clean)
Secondly, submit secondaries as soon as possible especially to schools you are very interested in - needless to say - dont procastinate on other secondaries.
Applying early makes a difference - Good luck 😎

I agree that submitting secondaries ASAP is one of the most important things. I waited a week or two after AMCAS was first allowed to be submitted before I finalized it, in the hopes of avoiding any major problems they would likely have in the first few days. It didn't hurt me at all. But I also went online and checked the websites of every school I applied to, and in many cases found their 2ndary applications online. So I was able to start working on them right away. With all the AMCAS problems, schools were even allowing you to submit 2ndaries without having a verified AMCAS application, so in many cases I had my 2ndaries in before September! And this allowed me to receive some interview invitations in mid-September, which is pretty early. Most of my interviews were Sept-December as a result, which was very nice since I had arranged my courseload so as to allow for travel. And the longer you wait, the more interview slots or even acceptance slots will be taken...you'll be competing for fewer and fewer slots the longer you wait.

I wish you all luck as well.•••••What??? Your being nice to Newbies??? How did this happen.

Seriously though, apply as soon as you feel you can. Get you classes entered, work on your PS now. I personally think every day counts. I applied the first day, and all of my best interviews came on the first day thosee schools were offering interviews. And I look around now and see the people who didn't get interviews to those schools, and they have a lot better stats than me. Just my .02.

At the risk of making this thread sound like a broken record, yes, apply as early as possible, and don't procrastinate on the secondaries. The secondaries get easier as time goes on, as you can re-cycle some answers. I recommend lining up a self-correcting typewriter to do some of them on. TommyGunn04's suggestion about checking school websites and finding the on-line secondaries is golden. Why don't all schools put their secondaries on-line! 😕 Probably the same reasosn that AMCAS acts like AMCAS!! 😀 Good luck all!!! 😀 🙂 😀
