i dont know if i missed a school i should have applied to or not, but it never came up in my vast search and chance me threads...i see a lot of people applied and many also got interviews there, and also noticed its private and a newer school so hopefully i'd have a better chance...

i only have 1 interview so far- 3rd batch with a 3.04 oGPA, 2.87 sGPA, and 24/24/20 DAT

i applied to 23 schools, mostly private, 1 in state and a few public that have decent OOS percentage...im not sure how i missed Western

basically, should I apply still? is it too late or is it worth a shot given my current circumstance?

Western interviews around 550 or so. They have already interviewed 200+ prospects, and have invited who knows how many others. There are 69 spots. I don't know if I would apply at this point in the game, but I also don't have your DAT. Good luck deciding.

are you sure? The 2011 data says they interviewed 300ish

We were told they interview 500+, I can't remember the exact number but I want to say it was in the high 500s. This estimate agrees with those shared by interviewees in other threads.

Just interviewed at Western last week. Dr. Friedrichsen (Dean) told us that they are planning to interview about 350 this cycle. They interviewed around 500 interviewees in the past and he felt it was pushing it.

If this is the case I would advise the o.p. not apply this late. I estimated around 100 interviewees on the 15th and from what I've read the 28th had just as many.

the program is pretty awesome though right? Worth the cost? Is IPE just with the med students or others as well?

I think it's what you make of it really. Since the school is relatively new, it is receptive to students' opinions. I liked that the program focuses on promoting friendly environment among students, faculty members, and staff so that they can effectively work together when they are out as a team, providing services to its community.

The dean told us that the passing rate for part 1 of NBDE exam is around 94-95% (first time). And 100% on subsequent tries. As for part 2, the current seniors are in the middle of taking it. He said they were 2/3 done and he's expecting about the same result as part 1. So yes, I think it is worth the cost.

IPE is with multiple health profession grad school students(at least medical, optometry, and dental...might be more). Things that incorporate IPE are basic life science lectures and some case studies.

500ish sounds about right according to their website:

The following statistics for this year's entering class (seated Fall 2012) will give you a sense of where you might fall within the applicant pool.

Number of AADSAS Applications Received 2,679 Number of Interviews Granted 513 Number of Students Enrolled 69 Number of Males Enrolled 36 Number of Females Enrolled 33 Number of California Residents 43 Average Overall GPA 3.32 Average Science GPA 3.24 Average AA DAT 19 Average PA DAT 20 Average TS DAT 20

i noticed the HIGH amount of students interviewed compared to their small class size and it made me hesitant, especially since im literally on the opposite end of the country lol not sure if i should or not

so they went from 300 to 500 and are now down to 300 again based on what the dean said.

Number granted not equal to number who actually attended...I interviewed at western on first day of interviews and in pamphlet it said 500 interview invites, those who attend will most likely be less...an example, at my last interview UNLV they invited 500 some odd people, but only 377 attended/confirmed...pre-dec invite total will most likely be 300ish, and post December they may invite more up to 200, but may be only 100 will actually attend...

Doesnt hurt to try! my roomie last year added this school later and she got a post- dec interview.

the admissions lady said around 500-600 because if I remember correctly, they are having 2 more interview dates in Oct and one in Nov and they already had 2 interview dates... and they are interviewing until feb

im going to contact the school and ask them for their honest opinion...hopefully get a get an honest response

Did your email say, "your application has been placed in 'continuing review'." I just received one today that said that. Hopefully this isn't the case, but I have heard this is usually a "soft rejection." Has anyone ever heard of an interview given after being placed in this category?

So western sent out "continuing review" emails too? Interesting...

Yes, I got the email today as well. I got the email twice, actually, within 2 minutes. Weird.
