Hi all,

I finished my undergrad study last year and now I am attending a post-bacc program from a state school in california to boost up my gpa. Im trying to get the necessary materials to apply in next summer 06. However, since my gpa is pretty low (2.6) I dont know, within a year, I could bring it up to around 3.0. Any recommendations u guys?

Thanx for your reply

i believe most of the schools require a gpa of around 2.75 to even consider your application. If you can pull it up to a 3.0 that would definitely help. Your MCAT score also must be pretty good with a low gpa like that. what is your MCAT? make sure you have medically related experience and good letters of rec.

Good Luck!

The fastest way to pull your GPA up is retake. Retake everything you made a C in if you are sure you can get an A in them the second time around. Then I would take several upper level science classes to see if you can handle it and maybe prove to the admissions committe that you can handle the medical school curriculum. I would try to bring it up to at least 3.2 for both science and overall.

Thank you both for replying to my question. Regarding retaking courses, I happen to know that medical school administrators do not like seeing retaken courses. They'd rather see those who did not do so well in certain classes try to take more difficult courses in return. Do you think if it was a good idea for me to just do one year post-bacc study then apply anyways (with a good mcat score) or to wait untill I can bring up my gpa to certain level? I have some good clinical experiences at several medical centers and Im holding a research position at Stanford. Will medical schools take all of these factors into consideration despite my grade is inadequate? Thank you!
