Applying to MCPHS for 2008 Fall/Spring

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am applying here for the 6-year Pharm.D program straight out of high school

I'm applying to MCPHS - Worcester. I have a friend who is attending at Manchester now and she loves it. She actually recommended I apply to Manchester instead because the classes are smaller and it's a more intimate environment. I decided to stick with Worcester because my boyfriend is in insurance and we're hoping he can get a job in Hartford, CT if we live somewhere in between Worcester and Hartford. Anyway, from what I understand the courses are the same at Worcester and Manchester (it's mostly distance learning) but I think you may have more access to the resources (professors) at Manchester because you have a smaller class size.

I have no idea about those area. I apply worcester cos my sister friend is there so I might have her as my room mate and at least one person there i know rather than not.

Has anyone heard anything from them yet? I got two letters in the mail claiming that they are missing one of the recomendation letters. Anyone get an interview request yet?

I think the interview invitation will be sent out either at the end of this month or middle of next month cos they start review our application on Oct 1.

No they don't, I just called and asked them at the Boston campus.

I just noticed on pharmcas website that you need physics, calculus based. I am in physics now but it is algebra based! 😱 I don't know what to do now, should I still apply? I can't take the calculus based physics next semester.

As long as you take it before Fall 2008, you should be fine.

On page 44 of the college catalog for 07-08 it says "Notification about admissions decisions is on a 'rolling basis' ". I'm not sure why they are saying that it's not....

I submitted my application just before Oct. 1st (the day they started reviewing apps), does that mean I'll have less of a chance since it's rolling admissions and students probably already had theirs in by August or September?

so anyone get any interview requests yet???
😕

When did you turn in your application? I did right before October 1st, which is when they started reviewing applications, so it probably takes a little time?

i applied to worcester september first, they sent me a letter saying they got everything and they're going to start review oct. 1st. I haven't heard anything yet...

I am incredibly anxious! I hope someone hears from them soon, but I will probably end up calling them tomorrow for an update.

I have everything complete sometime in the middle of September...😎
if anyone calls them please post the update! 👍

Most of the professors that teach are from the worcester campus, although a few of them are from Manchester. If you think you will be using office hours a lot and do not like calling or webcaming with your professor, then Worcester is a better place for you. if you do not mind either way, Manchester does have a smaller class size. Other than that, they are both the same, except that for Pharmacy Law class, the students in Worcester will learn Mass law, and the ones from Manchester will learn NH law, so I guess you kind of need to think which state you want to take the law exam. If you don't plan on taking it in either, then it doesn't really matter!

Perhaps I should start another thread, but I was wondering (new to pre-pharm, switching over from med) some things: I have all the requirements completed to apply (except for PCAT). A question: on the three year programs how does the timeline change for doing clerkships (or whatever pharm calls them)? Also, since Worcester seems a bit small, would one choose to do his clerkships in Boston? Where do you do these? How many do you do?

Would you recommend Worcester to others? and why or why not?

It all depends what your preference is. Personally I can't compare Worcester to other programs because I haven't actually been there. I can tell you that the program here and the way the professors teach have been much different, and better, than how they used to teach last year, or even 2 years ago because of feedbacks they have gotten from others. Therefore, you can't judge this school solely on what you see in this forum, especially if it was based a year + back. I've only been here a month or so, I don't have any complaints except that we're always busy studying, which I'm sure is the same wherever you go, especially accelerated programs.

Thanks

I applied to the accelerated program in Worcester and received a letter for an interview on October 4th. I am going for the interview this Thursday. Has anyone gone yet?

Which campus, Boston or Worcester, accept more candidates?

Congra. and good luck on ur interview guys 🙂

Hey guys,

I went for my interview today. You go 1/2 hour early, take a writing sample and then meet with a professor. He asks very standard questions about why you are here, etc, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. Then he will take you on a tour of the building and that's it. Very easy!

Hey what is ur writing about? COuld u share us? Hope u will get a good new soon🙂

Who specifically was the interviewer for you?

I was officially accepted today!! Anyone else get in yet?!

Wow wowooo, Congra. I am so nevous.

I've done research projects, my GPA is 3.75, and I have a BS in Chemistry/Biochemistry

About how long after sending in the application did you guys receive notice that your application was complete and ready for review? Also, I went over the word count on my essay (about 623) instead of 500. I hope that they won't hold that against me too much. It's hard to write a good essay in proper format in 500 words or less.

My essay was 800 words and I got an interview!
