so let's say you're interviewing after october 15 and you've already been accepted somewhere, and then during the interview you're asked "what will you do if you don't get into medical school?"

what's an appropriate response? will you look like an a@*hole if you say, "that's not an issue since i have already been accepted somewhere"? on the other hand, it's hard to lie and act meek and afraid when you know you will in fact go to medical school. do you go for the middle ground, and if so, what is the appropriate wording for it?

i'm sure plenty of people deal with this every year, so everyone with something to say on this, have at it.

no. just don't have a huge grin on your face as you say it.

you might also try to say, "well, hypothetically, if i didn't get in, then i might do A,B,C for reasons X,Y,Z" etc

You could ask if the question is figurative or are they directly asking you. If it is figurative, I would say that I would reapply, if they are asking you regarding your current application status, I would indicate that I've been fortunate to have received an invitation to a medical school. 😎

I would answer their question with another question

"Have you seen Michael Douglas in the movie Falling Down?"

i haven't seen that movie - someone wanna explain what that refers to? and is it a real answer or are you guys pulling my leg?!

I would say...."I would meet with the admissions director and find out what I could do to improve and enhance my overall application, so that I could reapply."

"i'll reapply and be right back here in this seat next year"

and then depending on who you are/what you do, you're going to continue clinical experience, research, masters program, etc.

that's what i'd do.

In the movie the main characher has a very bad day. Traffic jams, gang members harassing him, losing his job ectt....and goes nuts and shoots everyone.
