Are 3 quarters of ochem a must?

So Iv been going through certain dental schools pre-reqs (ex. UCLA) and noticed there are a few school that only require 8 quarter units of ochem instead of the traditional 12 units. Im almost debating taking a 3rd one but just might take it anyways. Is there anyone who has only taken 8 quarter units instead of 12 and gotten into to schools? or is that just dumb and risky?
