I live in Connecticut and it seems like there are very few jobs for occupational therapy assistants.

This is a field I'm potentially interested in so I was wondering what you think the future is like?

Do you think COTA's will be on the rise or on the decline?

I feel like more people are going that route since all you need is a two year degree.
Not sure how many are needed in the job market, though.

COTA is more hands-on but there is a ceiling because COTA cannot evaluate and treat independently . Many place would hire more therapist assistants and have them all under the therapist because it's more cost effective. There is probably a bigger need in areas with major hospitals and outpatient; not so much home-healthy.

I've ONLY ever seen a COTA in geratrics, pretty sure they may be in other settings but I think the bulk work with our lovely elders. So being that the baby boomers are getting old and retiring, I think in geriatrics COTAs as well as OTRs will be in great need for that area!!
