Are ECs necessary?
Started by brandxnew
Yea they're pretty necessary. B/c otherwise, they'll think you're a nerd who likes to sit around all day and do 1 of 2 things: 1)Nothing or 2)Read.
Right, 3.8 is just "ok". And I'm assuming his "average" DAT score is a 25. No, he needs E/C to show some altruism and community awareness. He can forget getting accepted without E/C, but I'm sure there'll be some who disagree.Hey predents, I'm asking this for a bro. Could one get into dental school with just an ok gpa (3.8) and an average DAT? No ECs at all.

I should have stated he has a part time job. What would be the bare minimum for ECs? Would a few hours of shadowing suffice?Yea they're pretty necessary. B/c otherwise, they'll think you're a nerd who likes to sit around all day and do 1 of 2 things: 1)Nothing or 2)Read.

There is no bare minimum or master formula....if he wants to get into dental school, he can look into it himself and work for it.
Considering that ECs include pretty much anything you do relatively regularly outside of class, I can't really imagine how someone could have zero ECs. I mean, how would one pass the time? Would they have any passions/interests other than wasting time? Dental schools would not want to accept someone who spent thousand of hours playing video games and studying, without a good reason.

EC is an absolute requirement.

Seriously, I would go crazy if I didn't have ECs

Are you the "bro" because you need the ECs for sure... no way around it. 👍
Nah, I've got my premed stuff underway. All this started from my friend essentially thinking that he could get into dental school with stats alone. Thanks for the responses, guys.

Another Pre-med thinking dental school is easier to get in.
Actually, I was the one telling him (he's predental) that it's not going to be that easy.Another Pre-med thinking dental school is easier to get in.
