Are there any D.O. schools not accepting 2014 MCAT for future cycles?

I came across a post where someone mentioned that one school will not be accepting the 2014 MCAT for the entering class of 2016. This is an M.D. school but i was wondering if any D.O. schools are doing the same thing? I don't think its fair to do this to someone who spent a lot of $$ on the mcat to not have their score accepted because it doesn't contain the new material from the 2015 test. Does this mean that some schools will eventually hold the newer 2015 mcat to a higher standard than the previous version?

IUSM (M.D. school) website says:

  • All applicants must take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) no more than three years prior to enrollment. Beginning with the entering Class of 2016 the old MCAT (verbal, Phy Sci, Bio Sci) will no longer be accepted.

I don't think any osteopathic school has made mention of this yet. However, if you plan on entering in fall of 2016 I would take the 2015 MCAT to play it safe and that ensures you won't waste your money on the MCAT. If you like you could risk it though and try to get in with the old MCAT but you have to understand it's a gamble. Ofcourse if you're entering fall of 2015 (like me) then the old one is fine no worries there.

If @Goro could weigh in on his school's policies that would be nice.

I'll be completely frank, most DO schools will probably be ecstatic to take the old mcat over the new one. Hell, LECOM is so worried about how the new mcat may be impossible to measure they're actually setting up a reliability equation between the old mcat and the sat.

Yea I doubt it would be a problem but you know it would most likely be better to take the new one because you know you won't get problems with that.

I hope this is the case, i don't know why some medical schools will not consider the 2014 scores at all.

It's gonna be an outdated test soon

What is soon to you? You're making it sound like the 2014 scores are a waste of time, not everyone can look at it the same way that you are. I'm trying to see if any D.O. schools have announced a similar message as the one i put in the original post. Thanks for your opinion, though.

The last 2014 mcat will expire in 2017-2018's cycle.

This is what i originally thought, usually mcat scores last around 3 years. The case with IUSM just made me think if any D.O. schools are following the same trend. It be good for people who plan on taking it before the 2015 changes to know whether or not their scores will be considered.

Yep thats when they expire for everyone but for some schools it might be sooner then that thats all i'm saying.

@greyfox

I don't think that any DO schools have announced anything yet.

Here is a spreadsheet some SDNers are working on.

As far as soon osteopathic schools may not accept the new MCAT as soon as the entering class of 2016 while other osteopathic school may take it till it expires (3 years) and I don't think there has been an announcement on which school is doing what. So if you aren't entering fall of 2015 it would be safer to take the new one to not waste money.

However most likely most school will take it for entering fall of 2016 and less as time goes on and no one will accept it after three years.

I haven't heard anything yet...I have to ask the wily old Admissions dean what our policy will be.

Thanks goro! So if the adcoms don't even know there is really no way of knowing...
