I am curious that any student who had low GPA or PCAT score successfully got accepted at a pharm school. What about your non-science GPA. Any comment would be appreciated.🙂

i would like to hear the same stories too.... give us non-traditional students some inspiration =)

what is non traditional?

i dont think i had terribly bad stats but they aint something to boast about either.. umm my sci and overall gpas were both 3.15 ( literally) and pcats -took it twice with the exact same score of 72 ( my lowest score was reading comp of 42% and 30%). i had 5 interviews, 2 waitlisted and 3 acceptances (2 at new schools)

so yea.. after something like that.. i realized firsthand that possibilities are endless...
i also heard of a friend getting into a new school with a sci gpa of 2.8

What is a non traditional student mean is that somebody who has a non science carrer like a major in business field tries to get into a pharms. <--- absoultely my opinion. Usually, applicants are a little bit older than norm. P.S would you share some infos about new schools where your friend applied to? I am living in Florida. Happy X-mas.

Non-science GPA: 3.65
Science GPA: 2.75 (yes, that is right)
Overall GPA: 3.19
PCAT: 80 and 93
Have a BA in French (completed in 2002)
How did I get in? Interviewed WELL (i.e. be yourself and don't say what you think they want to hear), and wrote a killer personal statement. Also had three years of experience in a pharmacy.

ohh well i guess im one of them.. im 24yrs old and graduated like 3 years ago and i majored in history and economics. you can't go any farther from pharmacy than that i dont think. hehe

some schools are new.. my friend got into touro, altho the sci gpa was about 2.8, the overall gpa was still 3.0 and she is a college grad. touro takes 100% college grads just to let you know. I got into touro as well and pacific U. (OR) which i honestly dont know what they look for in an applicant.

others are right. altho the gpa is important, i think my success lie mostly on the essay and the interview. for the essay i wrote about my observing pharmacy and what i hope to contribute as well as my personal experience tutoring kids from correctional facilities. It wasnt killer, but it was honest and thoughtful yet to the point.
then the interview i had to show that i truly wanted pharmacy. my reasons were typical but i still believed in it. and that i was confident that i would be a good choice for a student in their schools.

you're from florida?? im gonna go to nova in fall 2007. if you havent applied yet.. as in you are gonna apply next yr.. let me know if i can help.

It's really a matter of if the adcoms believe you are really going to be a good student. The person with the 2.8 probably had an excellent GPA up trend and a great total package. I think an adcom would be crazy to take a 20 year old with 4.0 in the first 2 years of school with no experience vs a 28 year old that had 2.8, a good degree, great reqs, good PCAT, works experience, ect... 2.8 isn't great, but they are proven to be able to hack it. See what I mean? That's how I would see it if I was an adcom. GPA is hard to change, but just do what you can to prove yourself.

Did someone call my name? Except I'm 24 turning 25 in a few months and the gpa at time of applying was 2.9. 🙂 I hope people realize this fact:

APPLYING EARLY >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> good GPA and PCAT.

IMO, anyone with ~3.0 gpa avg can hack it in pharmacy school. Have a laundry list of meaningful e/c's, pharmacy experience, and letters of rec and APPLY EARLY! Read my thread, eh? 😉

Haha. Actually, I was talking about me. I'm applying this summer and feel confident. My only negative is my overall GPA but, I've had a 3.4 average over the last 50+ hours in 3000-5000 level chem, bio, and med tech classes. Everything else is great so, I don't see how they could look at just that one number and say no. And yeah, I plan on going ED and have everything done in the first week. Maybe I'm just cocky. Either way, I don't mind applying a few times. I make pretty good money now but, I finally found what I want to do and I am ready to get it done.

So, which school are you going to apply, or have applied? Good luck to you.:luck:

I'll ED at Auburn, if they put me in the normal pool or reject me I'll apply to Samford and a few other schools. Samford is hard to get in for anyone but, I'll apply anyways. Who knows what might happen. Haha, I have the next couple years planned out for all situations. I'll get in somewhere, sooner or later. I'll take all my prereqs over and do forgiveness at USN if that is what it takes.

took off my post since drugdoc is offended

del... Do you think padding your application is something you should be proud of?

lol, delite thts hilarious.

drugdoc:
in truth, padding is always a gray area for consideration. I mean, im sure that other people has done it and they know who they are. but who are we to judge other people's accomplishments? but the experience is still there and the personal growth still exists. But delite probably is like a substitute teacher at that school and though she only done it a few times, it may have been a span over a few months because not everyone can be a teacher. so thus if she did it a few times in a matter of 3 or 4 months, then it's still 3 or 4 months but the teaching just isnt so frequent.

If you read delite's as they wrote it, delite made clear accusations to padding twice. Obviously so that they took their message off of the board. I don't pad anything and never have. Others who don't should be offended also. This is not the forum to be kidding about your padding when competition is stiff and we are all after the same thing, and then someone goes and lies on their application???? Yes, I'm offended!! This isn't a college undergrad application or job application; this is a professional school application and should be treated ethically.

I can't help but wonder why you are so concerned about somebody else and their application!! If you have never "padded" and have a good application then you have nothing to worry about!! This discussion forum is for advice from peers...thats all this person wants...
